This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of State road D200 (Turkey), and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/13/world/middleeast/13egypt.html.

Non-free rationale for File:SureyyaAyhanCoin.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:SureyyaAyhanCoin.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Query about Rumi calendar

[edit]

I posted the following query at Talk:Rumi calendar#When did Turkey adopt Gregorian leap year rules?. Since you seem to be the contributor who is most knowledgeable about the subject I thought I'd approach you directly. Do you know the answer?

According to this article, the Rumi calendar "abandoned" the Julian calendar in AH 1333 = 1917 by dropping 13 days, which realigned its months to the Gregorian calendar. However, it also says that Ataturk "replaced" the reformed Rumi calendar by the Gregorian calendar at the end of AH 1341 = 1925. It is clear that Ataturk replaced the Rumi era by the era of the Gregorian calendar. But was 1341/1925 the first time that Gregorian leap year rules were adopted, or were they already adopted as part of the reform of 1333/1917? My guess is the latter, but can someone who can understand the Turkish references cited confirm this?

Thanks -- Chris Bennett (talk) 19:49, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note to add that Joe Kress and I have been talking about this on Talk:Rumi calendar#When did Turkey adopt Gregorian leap year rules? and the more we look at it the more confused we are getting about what exactly happened when! -- Chris Bennett (talk) 02:34, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Very hard question? I missed to ask it to myself. I guess (only guess) that the leap year was intoduced in 1917, because the length of the months must have been in conformity with the Gregorian calender's in order not to change the equivalent reference of the calendar days. The difference had existed only in the expression of the years, for my POV. About the beginning of the Gregorian calender in Turkey, I could not find a source yet. However, I guess it began on January 1, 1926, since it is custom in our country that adopted laws go in effect almost immediately, not after a long time as more than one year. Hopefully, these comments are satisfactory. Cheers. CeeGee (talk) 06:49, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'm also pretty sure that this is right. I would like to be able to cite a very authoritative source that verifies it, since there is conflicting information on the net. If I understand section 4.1.1 of this page correctly, based on this Google translation into English, it confirms the account you have written in the Rumi calendar article, but with the additional detail that there were two separate changes in 1917: in 1332/1917 (law 2851) the Rumi calendar was aligned to the Gregorian calendar, and in 1333/1917 (law 615) the New Year was changed from 1 March to 1 January, except for the financial year. The only problem I have is that the article says that the first change was under law 2851, but the French translation given here says it was law 2803, not 2851. Do you know which number is correct, or whether there were two laws passed in 1332 (and if so what the difference is between 2803 and 2851)?

As for 1926 vs 1927, it seems clear that the legally effective date was 1926, but it is not clear why many sources (e.g. [1], Google English translation at [2]) say 1927, even on pages like this one that also say the law mandated 1926. -- Chris Bennett (talk) 22:49, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

When I search "Şubat 1332 Kanun 2803", which means "February 1332 AH Act 2803" at Google, I find the reference [3] of a publisher specialized on printing of government material. The reference lists all the laws enacted during the Ottoman Empire, which are still in force today. The date of the act "MUAMELATI DEVLETTE TAKVİMİ GARBİNİN KABULÜ HAKKINDA KANUN" (Law on the Acceptance of the Western Calendar for State Affairs) is February 10, 1332 AH.
A search with the law's title finds [4], which gives the full text of the law. It was dated Fabruary 8, 1332 AH. For my POV, this is the text of the law proposal, which is listed as so at [5].
A search with "Şubat 1332 Kanun 2851" yields to the reference at [6], which was published by a governmental institution "Atatürk Araştıma Merkezi Başkanlığı" (Atatürk Reseach Center). The law was dated February 16, 1332 AH.
It's up to you to take which one is correct. Since it's unlikely that within one week two laws on the same subject had passed. only one might be factual. Cheers. CeeGee (talk) 21:01, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much indeed. I think it is clear from this that 2803 is the correct number, since it is still in force, except for article 4. I've also found Turkish text for 1341 Kanun 698, Ataturk's reform. The Google English translation is very bad, but it is clear that it wasn't published until 2 January 1926, which may explain why some people talk about the reform coming into effect in 1927.

However, I have not been able to find any Turkish text for the law(? -- it's not called a "kanun") 615 mentioned at [7], which seems to have changed the start of the year from March to January. Since this is the same page that mentions "2851", apparently incorrectly, I wonder if "615" is also incorrect. The list of current Ottoman laws at [8] only has two laws with "Takvim" in the title, and they are 2803 and 698. The same list shows laws of April 1332 AH before February 1332 AH, but laws of February 1337 AH before laws of April 1337 AH, so the start of the year must have changed between 1332 and 1337 AH.

The Google translation of 2803 is impossible to understand. The French translation I found says that 2803 did not change the start of the year. Is that right? If it is, can you find the law which did change the start of the year? -- Chris Bennett (talk) 22:30, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe in the motivation of the Award are mentioned his contributions to the field of Byzantine Art. I searched for it on the web, but I could not find it... You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Tarık Langart Akdağ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Esma Aydemir has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NTRACK. Medaling in the Junior European champions does not count. Only the World Junior championships do count.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sultanzade Mehmed

[edit]

This is not vandalism... Look what Sultanzade means...He cant be a Greatgrandchild of Mihrimah Sultan. Look what Hanimsultan means...a direct daughter of a Ottoman Princess...

Strange, you a Turk why you didn't know that?

Sultanzade: the title borne by the sons of Ottoman Imperial Princesses (Sultan). The sons of Imperial Princesses, excluded from the Ottoman imperial succession, were only styled Sultanzade (given name) Bey-Efendi, i.e. Son of a Princess of the Ottoman dynasty.

Only direct sons are the Title Sultanzade... Why no any of Turks in Wikipedia know that? Strange.

But...who care's... I know it and many others know it, that the Title Sultanzade and Hanimsultan are the direct son and daughter of an ottoman princess and not her Grandgets...

Aya

[edit]

Merhaba CeeGee

I have a question for you as Istanbullu: I have at the moment a discussion about Ayakapı (a gate of the walls of Istanbul on Halic), since a fellow Wikipedian asserts that then the name is an hybrid between the Greek Word Aya and the Turkish word kapı. He also says that no Turk would understand the real meaning of Ayakapi, since Aya describe in Turkish only the palm of the head. Now, I think that Aya comes of course from Greek ("Hagios") but is a turkified version of the word (like Saint in English come from Sanctus in Latin). The main reason for me to support this assertion is that in Turkish we have place names (like Ayastefonos, Ayayorgi) where Aya is also used, although the name is male. Turkish does not know gender and this explain why we have the same form for female (Aya in Ayakapi comes from the nearby church of Hagia Theodosia) and male name of saints. Some years ago a Greek Wikipedian had the same opinion as I have today. What do you think about it? When do you hear Ayapinarlar thinks about Palm Springs ? :-) Alex2006 (talk) 08:21, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I found a source, which says "AYAKAPI Haliç surları üzerinde, Fener-Cibali kapıları arasında bulunan ve buradaki surlarda Türkler'in fetihten sonra açıp, buraya ve yakın çevresine "Yeni Ayakapı" (yeni kutsal kapı) dedikleri bölgedir." at "Semtleri, mahalleleri, caddeleri ve sokaklarıyla A'dan Z'ye ..1 by Haldun Hürel. It says Ayakapı=kutsal kapı. I tend to believe also "Aya" points out to "Hagia". The other explanaitaion is unlikely to me. Cheers. CeeGee (talk) 15:33, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Istanbul

[edit]

Hallo CeeGee
currently there is an ongoing process to promote Istanbul to Featured Article Status. If you have time and lust, you can participate and review the article (or part of it). I find very important that someone actually living in the city checks the article's content: many things (f.e. how good fish restaurants in Kumpkapı are :-)) comes from sources which do not reflect necessarily the reality. Alex2006 (talk) 08:51, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the invitation. Yes, the issue is very important. I will do my best. Cheers. CeeGee (talk) 08:53, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help re infobox:monument

[edit]

Dear CeeGee, I have replaced the infobox:building with your infobox:monument in the article Yad Kennedy, but I can't seem to get the map inserted into the infobox. For the building infobox I just had to type in "Israel" and it worked (without the quotation marks). One reason I switched to yours is that it seems to include the ability to downsize the map, which is important to me for the Yad Kennedy article. Could you please let me know what I'm doing wrong? I want a push-pin map that will share the monument's location based on the coordinates. Sorry if I'm just being dumb! Thanks -- NearTheZoo (talk) 16:28, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi NearTheZoo! Pls give for the map_image only the file name without the "file:" preword and put always a value for the map_width. As an example:
  • |map_image = Israel map.png
  • |map_width = 100px
I hope this helps you. BTW, I see I have to edit the template for easier use. Cheers.CeeGee (talk) 17:43, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much! Unfortunately, I get a map, but it does not have the site of the landmark (memorial - Yad Kennedy) indicated. In the infobox building template, once I entered "Israel" (without any specific file extension, like Israel map.PNG) a map appeared with the location of the landmark (based on coordinates) indicated.
I don't want to take up too much of your time, but if it is quickly apparent to you what I am doing wrong, please tell me! Otherwise, I'll keep experimenting to see if I can figure out the right way to make this happen. NearTheZoo (talk) 23:37, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi NearTheZoo! Recently, I have modified the template infobox monument so that you can use a location map with a red dot marking the location on it. An example for your case is below. Cheers. CeeGee (talk) 13:47, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Istanbul Map

[edit]

Hallo CeeGee
I saw that you added to Hagia Sophia the long due Istanbul location map. Don't you think that for the Istanbul Landmarks it would be better to use a map showing only the historical peninsula and surrounding areas (Beyoglu, üskudar, etc.)? The scale of the present map is so small that I find it almost useless. For the (few) landmarks lying outside the new map, we can always use the old one. If we decide to change it, it would be difficult to adapt the template to the new map with a larger scale? Thanks, Alex2006 (talk) 07:13, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alex! I see your arguments and agree with you. However, I'm not sure if we have a "location map" of the historical penninsula like we have for "Turkey" and "Turkey Istanbul". Please feel free to change tha map if you know its file name. BTW it would be nice when someone would create a location map for the old city. Cheers. CeeGee (talk) 08:09, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK CeeGee, I am happy to see that you share my opinion. I could ask Constantine, who created the beautiful map of Byzantine Constantinople. Maybe he has something about modern Istanbul too... Alex2006 (talk) 08:24, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Alex, I'm not sure whether any type of map can be used as a "location map", which allows to mark a specific place on it with given coordinates. I guess such a map must have a reference coordinate. CeeGee (talk) 12:03, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I thought also the same...Once I should see how this template works (after all I have some experience in software :-)) and maybe program something myself. Alex2006 (talk) 12:11, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested edits to make bio entry more complete

[edit]

CeeGee -- I originaly posted this note under the talk section of your "articles I created" page, but wanted to be sure you saw in this feed as well given your activity in creating/curating this page....

CeeGee -- Hello, my name is Kent Landers and I work in Public Affairs for The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta and wanted to suggest some additional biographical information to add to Muhtar Kent's Wikipedia page to make it more complete. Each of the suggestions noted can be cited from our biography page at thecoca-cola.company.com -- *http://www.thecoca-colacompany.com/dynamic/leadershipviewpoints/profiles/muhtar-kent.html

I hope you find this helpful in making this entry more complete --

1. At the end of the first paragraph it would be most accurate ot add "and became Chairman in 2009," following where it says he assumed the position of Chief Operating Officer in 2008 as this is not his most recent positon.

2. In the first paragraph under "professional career," you could add "1978" to when he joined the company.

3. In the sixth paragraph under "professional career" it should say that he became "chief executive officer" effective July 1, 2008 -- not "chairman and chief executive officer." He became the Company's chairman in April 2009.

4. The current biography is short on biographical details in terms of organizations and civic involvement. I would suggest that the following paragraph from his official Coca-Cola biography could be added to the professional section the to make it more complete --

"He is active in the global business community and currently is co-chair of the Consumer Goods Forum, a fellow of the Foreign Policy Association, a member of the Business Roundtable, a past Chairman of the U.S.-China Business Council and Chairman Emeritus of the U.S. ASEAN Business Council. He also was recently appointed as a member of the Eminent Persons Group for ASEAN by President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton. He serves on the boards of Special Olympics International, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Catalyst and Emory University."

Kentlanders (talk) 17:43, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kent Landers! Thank you for your a.m. remarks. Sorry, for not being aware of your posting at my other page. Please note that at WP, everybody may edit any article as soon as the rules of referencing reliable sources and biographies of living persons are strictly followed. Therefore, I suggest you edit that page by yourself. I'm sure you can do it better than me since you know the matter, and on the other hand English is my foreign language only. Cheers. Esin Afşar's birth

[edit]

Hi CeeGee I noticed that you have changed the birth date of Esin Afşar from 1936 to 1942. But all my sources give the date as 1936. Do you have a reliable source about 1942 birth ? Thanks. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 15:50, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nedim Ardoğa! Yes indeed, I have at least two reliable sources: [9] and the one referenced under #1 in the article's lede. Cheers. CeeGee 18:42, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
Dear CeeGee, there are very few editors who contribute to Turkey related articles. I appreciate your never ending efforts to contribute. However I also noticed that sometimes you can be rude to other editors just like in the case of article Esin Afşar. You know very well that she was born in 1936. Almost all sources say so. But you keep changing the birth date to 1942 without any reason. Your only reference for 1942 birth is a newpaper article. But that source (Turkish Daily News) is self contradictory for in the text it says Esin Afşar was born in 1942 and in the lede it says when she died in 2011 she was 75 (hence birth date 1936). With this contridiction you can't rely on it. Since overwhelming number of sources give the date as 1936, insistence of 1942 birth is a waste of time. I would like to kindly request you to end this nonsense edit war. Creating new articles is much more fun than reverting the sourced data. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 08:09, 14 December 2012 (UTC)ü.[reply]
I guess you try to ignore tha fact that the sources that give her birth date are not reliable in WP principles. On the other hand, the Milliyet gives that date as 1942 for any reason. What count is the credibility of the reference. I am (and everybody is) ready to accept the "1936"-date as soon as someone references a reliable source, e.g. a newspaper or a book, which I might have overlooked, but not "any" website. Besides, nothing has to do with you personally, and I don't think that I am rude. We all have to respect the WP rules. CeeGee 08:24, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
May I intrude, with a possible compromise? Why not list both years with corresponding references and let the reader decide. I would imagine this will be scorned and shot down, but I thought I would throw it out there. Good luck! --Kansas Bear (talk) 08:41, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm for that comprise. Maybe you can fornulate it. CeeGee 08:45, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
You tend to ignore my references and insist using a self conflicting newspaper article as a reliable reference. Very well in addition to my earlier references I'll now add a number of newpaper references. The following newspapers are the among the most popular newpapers,Hürriyet [10], Milliyet [11], Sabah [12] and Vatan [13]. All claim that Esin Afşar was 75 when she died. So there is no question of her birth in 1936. Please end this edit war. It is no use to you or me. (By the way I am ready to find a comprimise on the reliability of the sources) Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 09:36, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
None of the sources you list above give her birth year. Please check again. I cannot understand what you wanna do. CeeGee 10:24, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Are you serious or are you trying to make fun out of an encycloapedic text. If somebody aged 75 dies in 2011, that means the birth date is 1936. There is abosolutely no way around. It is pure mathematics. Let's look another way. In the infobox her death age is authomatically calculated to be 69 right ? (These figures were entered by you and not by me). Well now, for a moment forget my sources, the source you used so vehemently says she was 75 and not 69. So you see even your source fails you. (Also you can see the birth date here [14]) Please for Heaven's sake, end this edit war.Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 11:43, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Look at Anılar yanıltır mı? by Esin Afşar, Esin Afşar Aral - Arion Yayınevı, 1995 - 380 sayfa[15]. I'm really tired of this nonsense time wasting editings. CeeGee 11:59, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
