ARCHIVES 2 -- SEP - DEC 2006
Warning

This page is intended for archive purposes only. DO NOT EDIT ANYTHING ON THIS PAGE! All edits will be reverted, and any comments placed here will be ignored.

If you want to leave a comment, please start a new section at the bottom of my active talk page.

I am confused as to why my edit to include the web address to the Xavier Nady tribute song "Ballad of the X-Man" has been deleted when the song itself is referenced in the trivia section above the links. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.52.58.130 (talkcontribs)

  • While I'm sure the edit was in good faith (so I'll remove the warning), the page does not specifically mention Nady. I do not see the need of adding it to the links on the Nady page. It looked like spam, since there isn't a clear connection to Nady even if one exists. ~~ Meeples (talk)(email) 16:18, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Xavier Nady Song

[edit]

I noticed the link for the Xavier Nady song dissappeared. I don't understand why, because the song is a direct tribute to Xavier Nady and it plays automatically when you go to the page. If the song is listed in the trivia about Nady, and since the artist is willing to let it be heard for free over the internet why not link to it from this page. I dont get it, Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.52.58.130 (talkcontribs)

Hey! (possible vandalism to Allen High School (Allen, Texas)

[edit]

Excuse me, but I have never vandalized a page in my entire life. I don't know what you're talking about and that warning came across a bit rude. Please give me proof on what I said, or what I vandalized. The only thing I have ever changed is small bits that provide helpful information. I would hate to be banned from editing because of a mistake. What did I do wrong?24.1.255.114 23:15, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi -- it looks like your edits to Allen High School (Allen, Texas) could be vandalism. If not, I apologize and will remove the warning. Also, you're using an anonymous IP address. This means that someone else might have used this IP address to edit the article noted above, and the warning does not apply to you. If you were not the one who edited this article, please ignore all of this. Hope that clears things up! Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks! ~~ Meeples (talk)(email) 23:24, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Japan

[edit]

I do not understand why you cannot respect the Japanese perspective. World War II is very controversial. Why did it start? Was it not because the United States stopped oil to Japan? So Japan was forced to attack Pearl Harbor to defend itself. And Japan did not sign Geneva Convention, so why did Japanese people have to be subject to international war tribunal? It is unfair. The trials are disputed in Japan even today. And atomic bombings, are they not worst human tragedies of the war? Many innocent people suffered because of cruel American decision. Why attack civilians? Did Japan attack American civilians? Why so unfair? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.233.205.83 (talkcontribs)

  • I don't believe I'm being unfair to the Japanese perspective -- one might argue that you are being unfair to the Korean or American perspectives as well by editing articles to reflect your point of view. I assure you I am not attempting to be disrespectful to you or the Japanese. I am, however, attempting to uphold a neutral viewpoint in the articles. I understand it is difficult to see this when you feel so strongly about something; I know I am guilty of this myself on occasion. But Wikipedia is not the place to trumpet the views of a percentage of the Japanese public, so I ask you again to please conform to the Neutral Point of View policy. ~~ Meeples (talk)(email) 23:51, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, for the record, one could certainly disagree with many of the arguments stated by you in your comment above. For instance, many believe the atomic bombings -- which I agree were very tragic -- actually saved lives, as a land invasion of Japan would have almost certainly occurred had the war not ended when it did. Such an invasion would have likely cost many many more lives. Does this automatically mean that the atomic bombs were the right thing to do? Not necessarily, but it's an argument one could make. However, these are my views and are not neutral, so they too do not belong as the sole viewpoint in an encyclopedia article. ~~ Meeples (talk)(email) 23:56, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why do you mention Korean? I did not talk about Korean. In Japan, nobody talks or cares about Korea. It is not significant, only China. And about atomic bombings, if you are agree that they are tragic, why do you delete my comment that they are? Please be neutral perspective. If Americans are neutral perspective and friends of Japan, then why act lke this? I think you might be Korean.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.233.205.83 (talkcontribs)
  • I am, in fact, not Korean, and you did mention (or removed the mention) of Korea. This is not the place to discuss differences in ideologies, interesting as they may be. My views, as stated in my previous comments, are in fact not a neutral view, which is why I would not put them in an encyclopedia article. I simply reverted your edits which were in violation of the NPOV policy. I assure you that in doing so I am not acting because I may not agree with you, but for the betterment of Wikipedia. I hope this makes sense -- please let me know if you are still confused about the NPOV policy. ~~ Meeples (talk)(email) 00:08, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Meeples, just a word of caution/to let you know, this guy seemed so over the top I took a couple of minutes to look it up--222.233.205.83 is a Hanaro Telecom IP, from Seoul, Korea. It seems very likely this fellow seems to think the best way to accomplish things is misdirection. One way or another something fishy is going on with this user. —LactoseTIT 00:06, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So far I think you did a great job; at this point I believe this user has been sufficiently warned about NPOV/trolling behavior and at this point I think it's beyond simple ignorance, if it continues to happen it's clear disruption (in my opinion). If you notice more edits, I'd report it (in fact, I'll be keeping an eye on him myself, too). As you've implied, it doesn't matter where this guy is coming from or what POV he has--it's just clear he's got one and is trying to cause trouble. —LactoseTIT 00:20, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I came across this user on Thursday doing exactly the same thing but from a different ip User:222.233.205.158. It was definitely the same person, the tone, the wording even saying everyone is a Korean is identical. I think we need to watch out for all edits from the 222.233.205.xxx range on these topics. Ben W Bell talk 07:11, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Good thinking. For the record, both IPs are Korean -- the country IP range is 222.232.0.0 to 222.239.255.255 -- so it seems wise to double check any such edit. All seems rather odd to me, really. ~~ Meeples (talk)(email) 07:16, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

September Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!

Kate602 page

[edit]

Dear Meeples,

I am writing to imform you of a concern that I have about the message left on my talk page in August. HOW DARE you report my page and say it is too personal! It has absolutely nothing to do with you, so just keep your nose out of other people's buissness!!!!!

Yours sincerely, Kate602 Kate602 07:44, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi -- You had created an encyclopedia article with the title of your username, instead of using your user page for personal information. The encyclopedia article has been deleted some time ago, and now all is fine. I hope this clears things up -- I assure you your user page is not too personal or anything like that, but it was just a misunderstanding. ~~ Meeples (talk)(email) 15:27, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

'tis genuinely true, sir.

Perhaps, but it's not appropriate material for Wikipedia. ~~ Meeples (talk)(email) 16:20, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Song lyrics added to the section on the 19th-century Dublin red-light district Monto: "Take Her Up To Monto"

[edit]

Hi, I added to the page the lyrics of the song that is famously associated with this historical Dublin district. Sorry if I violated an editing protocol, but the lyrics are correct and may safely be added to the page.

Thanks,

Boston College Law School

[edit]

I don't get it, why did you revert the changes I made? Boasting about how your law school has a "national reputation" is CLEARLY academic boosterism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.36.167.212 (talkcontribs)

November Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

[edit]

Hi I have notice that you have deleted certain bands other then one Mrs. Chelly Wright off of the Wellsville KS, wiki. I would like to inform you that those bands that you claim not notable are in fact real bands that work in the community performing shows for the general youth. I have added them back so please do not remove.

Thanks for the inconvence

hey meeples, why are you such a loser? i hope they pay you well to browse through wikipedia all day and stop "internet vandalism" if i wanted to vandalize something id through a brick through a window. now if i wanted to tell the truth about my consecutive titles for sexiest man alive, then i should be able to. anyways, good luck on getting a life, a girlfriend, or any friends for that matter. 71.230.246.247 00:57, 24 December 2006 (UTC)JustOwnedMeeples[reply]

Mealy Parrot

[edit]

I've changed it again (and don't have any more to add, so that should be it, until someone feels like adding more), as I had made quite a few additions since the earlier mistaken post, which you reverted to. Anyway, no big prob. Should be solved now. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.10.95.112 (talk) 03:42, 24 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Hi, notice you deleted some references I added. Those references are not even much visible. I wonder why you delete them? Would you mind to put them back? Thanks. Have a merry Christmas. (User talk:24.233.50.32)

  • Very few people, if any, ever visit page like Edward Lampert, I wonder why you delete those tiny reference. I hope you don't mind I add it back? I occasionally browse those "lonely" pages, add some small references, that is all. I wonder why you would even bother to look at them. (User talk:24.233.50.32)
  • Thank you for the link. I was adding ref without adding my own comments. I was afraid any comments could be neutral by one standard, but bias by another, that is why I try to quote using the true data, with minimum content exposure. In general I tend not to add things to pages with many hits. I am sure those pages are already at their best possible values. So I was occasionally looking around at some pages with minimum content and hope I can add my own tiny contributions. I appreciate your contributions. Many thanks. (User talk:24.233.50.32)

Thanjavur Marathi

[edit]

Hey thanks for correcting the redirect issue. Also the article as it stands is correct. It may be slightly confusing that Thanjavur Marathi is both the name of the community and the name of the language.

Nosey25 02:59, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the line "In the movie Office Space." from this page, before your reversion, due to redundancy. The origin of the reference is Office Space, so there is no need to have Office Space as a reference, unless there was something in the movie that was self-referential to the reports. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.64.150.22 (talkcontribs)
