Rishi Singhal

Rishi Singhal is a globally recognised bariatric surgeon known for his work in laparoscopic and bariatric surgery. He is the medical director at weight loss surgery provider Healthier Weight, a company formed in the early 2000's with the focus on all forms of bariatric surgery, including the gastric band, gastric bypass, gastric sleeve and gastric balloon. Mr Singhal is well established in operating on incredibly complex and morbidly obese patients.

After completing his CCT in General Surgery, Mr Singhal undertook a national fellowship in Bariatric Surgery at the Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton which is one of the premier bariatric centres in the UK. He has experience in benign Upper GI Surgery, Bariatric surgery and resectional surgery for oesophago-gastric cancers.

Mr Singhal has published over 50 manuscripts and has co-authored several book chapters. He has been invited as a faculty member at numerous international bariatric conferences and has been awarded international and national prizes for clinical research.

Mr Singhal has ongoing research interests in bariatric surgery including its metabolic effects, resting energy expenditure and gut hormone changes in morbidly obese patients. His other research interests include epidemiology of obesity in the UK and the effect of socio-economic deprivation; day case surgery for the treatment of reflux disease, gall stone disease and obesity. Mr Singhal is also a reviewer for the British Journal of Surgery.

He has authored and contributed to a large number of published articles including a  meta-analysis of gastric band slippage and erosion following laparoscopic gastric banding and on the metabolic outcomes of obesity surgery patients with diabetes.

Due to his interests in research, he holds an Honorary appoint with the University of Birmingham as a Senior Lecturer.
