Channel 6

[edit]

I think Channel 6 was simple a rebrand of the channel. TV3 ran the channel as Channel 6 for a number of months before it became 3e. Also TV3 own a share in Channel 6 buying out the remaining owners. Purely a rebrand, TV3 could have decided to keep the name. IrishTV (talk) 23:17, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It may have had some shareholders in common with 3E and some of the same shows, but it was worlds away from the Channel 6 many of us knew and loved. I consider them different stations. Channel 6 essentially became a completely different station. 80.111.218.7 (talk) 22:53, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Irish Nation???

I've changed this. Whatever person posted this clearly doesn't understand that an encyclopedia can't speak for every single person in the country. TV3 News and Information

[edit]

Should News and Current Affairs section be renamed News and Information? Since TV3 have a News and Information department which produces Ireland AM, The Morning Show, Midday, News @5:30, Expose and Nightly News.

Prime time schedule

[edit]

"an article on a radio station generally should not list upcoming events, current promotions, phone numbers, current schedules, et cetera ... Mention of major events, promotions or historically significant programme lists and schedules may be acceptable" - taken from Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not.

The primetime schedule of a TV station changes many times during the year and as a result I do not think it should be included as the information can very quickly become out of date. Also it goes against the policy of Wikipedia as I've highlighted above. Alanmryan100 (talk) 13:30, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Prime Time Schedule of TV3 has not changed that much since 2001 with the exception of the replacement show Xpose for their News output 6:30 News. Coronation St., Emmerdale, Xpose, Nightly News, Law&Order SVU, The Apprentice will all remain in the same time slots and they are unlike to radically over hall their schedule in the Near future. I think this decision should be re-examined. It is also an example of what type of schedule that TV3 have, It can be changed appropriately. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IrishTV (talkcontribs) 17:21, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I note that general prime time schedule are provided for by Wikipedia for all the main US channels NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX. This should be no different the schedule provide is not an up-to-date Schedule but it provides exactly the same information as provide by those US channel. The decision should be discussed a little more.
I have made the schedule less apparent pointing out the main areas of the schedule without being specific. However I maintain that the schedule for TV3 has not changed that radically in the last 8 years.
As I understand in the US TV stations generally have the same programmes in the same timeslot from September to May, so that's possibly given as a reason for a schedule on those pages. But in Ireland the situation is different as programmes generally air for a far shorter period (i.e 6 or 8 episodes rather than the 20+ in the US). For example the Holiday Show has now concluded, with a Rugby Special airing this Friday night. Also Hell's Kitchen is on tonight in the 9pm slot rather than Lawless Ireland or the Apprentice. A film will air in the same slot next week. Also TV3 have increasingly aired one-offs specials in recent weeks such as the Roy Keane Story and Daniel 'ODonnell Up Close and Personal - at various times across the schedule. This just further confuses things as it means that to be accurate the schedule needs to be updated on a weekly basis.
Note that TV3 have very few home produced shows, outside of some ITV productions and TV3 commissions TV3's schedule does not actually change that much. As I said it is only there to give the reader an Idea of what a TV3 schedule is like. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IrishTV (talkcontribs) 19:54, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I admit there are a number of programmes that have stayed in their time slot since 2001, but there are have also been a number of changes. Alanmryan100 (talk) 13:59, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The prime time schedule should be removed - TV3 change their schedule every week - Hell's Kichen concludes on Monday, and there's film there next week due to it being a bank holiday. The Holiday Show was only 6 episodes long - why should that stay there? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.203.76.222 (talk) 18:50, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Againing refering to the US schedules they stay the same and as I have said many of the programming shown on TV3 have certain times that they go out at for example Law & Order:SVU has been a feature of TV3 Monday night schedule since it began. ITV rarely change their show, the schuedule is just a taste of what TV3 have show this season 2008/2009, and it should be updated as soon as they announce their new schedule in September for 2009/2010. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IrishTV (talkcontribs) 10:48, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think the schedules look really bad as they are badly out of date and would need to be updated each week to remain clear. They detract from the rest of the article. Also Wikipedia is not a TV guide nor should it provide TV listings, as it says in the article content sections. So keeping in mind these two reasons I think the schedules should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.94.134.95 (talk) 20:07, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I do agree that the schedule got out of hand. However I do feel that any announced schedule should be provided at the start of the new season for 2010/2011. TV3 provide a schedule to the BCI as part of their annual review with the regulator. So what you see here is what they are providing to the BCI with even more detail. Again I have asked repeatedly that the schedule not be updated since Wiki isn't a TV guide. But if you are to look at any of the US schedules you would notice that many of the shows for the Fall/winter season are off air. Any more changes until the announcement of the Autumn season will be undone, and I will provide wiki with details of the TV3 Autumn schedule which is their main season IrishTV (talk) 07:05, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

[edit]

Does anyone know if you can use Sky Digital to recieve this channel in the UK, also is the channel broadcasted encrypted? - Aled D 18:50, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You need a Republic of Ireland Sky card, as it is VideoGuard IE encrypted. --Kiand 18:55, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Criticisms section

[edit]

Criticisms are good but each one must come from a published reliable source and the criticism must be attributed in each case.

TV3 have become reliant on ITV for live relays of ITV network shows like Coronation Street, The X-Factor, Emmerdale and such like that TV3 frequently resembles an Irish ITV region rather than an independent TV broadcaster for Ireland due to its prime time schedule being almost identical to that of ITV in Britain

Says who? This type of opinion writing is not allowed on Wikipedia as it degrades the articles. All sentences that are not attributed to reliable sources (see: WP:RS) get deleted tomorrow. Curtains99 16:28, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have placed references for the criticisms section into the article and deleted the paragraph referring to the live relays. Loguer 00:03, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Great! You can add as many criticisms as you like so long as they are all attrributed to reliable sources. Curtains99 08:48, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I did provide a schedule which did outline all of the shows that

TV3 have become reliant on ITV for live relays of ITV network shows like Coronation Street, The X-Factor, Emmerdale and such like that TV3 frequently resembles an Irish ITV region rather than an independent TV broadcaster for Ireland due to its prime time schedule being almost identical to that of ITV in Britain

. It has since been removed because the Schedule changes so much which is not the case. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IrishTV (talkcontribs) 17:23, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Morning & Daytime line-up

[edit]

I've removed this area (to bring it in line with the RTE page), as well as the information on the analogue transmitters (to bring it in line with the BBC page).

UTV

[edit]

There appears to be some sort of legal dispute at the moment between TV3 and UTV. Has anyone got details? They might be relevant for the article Millbanks (talk) 09:57, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UTV and STV are both disputing their franchises of Channel 3 with ITV, this includes TV3's deal with ITV for ITV shows, it might be better to include it on UTV's or ITV's wikipage. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.191.225.238 (talk) 16:18, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article name

[edit]

Move this back to TV3 (Ireland). "TV3 (IRL)" is the most bizarre name possible. An abbreviation in a title? Madness. Djegan (talk) 19:49, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Madness? THIS! IS! DUBLIN!!!!!! —harej (talk) 02:13, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have moved it back, and the redirects all appear to be fixed. Since the title of this page is contentious, I have locked page moving until a name can be settled upon. —harej (talk) 20:16, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Audience Share for TV3 (10% - 15%)

[edit]

Please note that AGB Nielsen provide monthly reports for Irish programming. http://www.agbnielsen.net/whereweare/dynPage.asp?lang=english&id=393&country=Ireland. TV3 have never had an average anywhere near the suggested 27% of David McRedmond their CEO in the Irish Times. Even when you include 0.5% - 1% that 3e has. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IrishTV (talkcontribs) 15:33, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Consequently I disagree with the final sentence in the opening paragraph with states that TV3 competes with RTÉ One to be Ireland's most watched channel. That is nonsense; TV3's viewing figures are a fraction of RTÉ One's so to suggest there is a close contest between the two is ridiculous. I deleted that statement but it was quickly reverted. Play TV

[edit]

I am trying to be as fair as possible to both sides of the problems surrounding Play TV. I have gone out of my way to provide a new section dedicated to the problem with references from both the Joe Duff Show and from Hot Press. Please provide further references for this section if you are going to change it. IrishTV (talk) 18:29, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The conplaints went before the Broadcasting Complaints Commission and not the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. The BCC was obsorbed by the BAI when it came into existance a week later.

Also the number of complaints is innaccurate. 17 complaints were before the BCC and 16 were upheld. one was rejected There is a report in the sunday tribune from a few weeks ago that a further 11 complaints are pending. 89.100.75.14 (talk) 18:48, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

At the time of edit I was basing it on the BAI's website which states "At this meeting the Commission adjudicated upon 20 complaints. The Commission upheld 16, rejected one and determined one to be invalid. It was agreed to defer two complaints in order to seek further information to facilitate a thorough assessment." http://www.bai.ie/about_news_art005.html IrishTV (talk) 21:22, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

From February 2011: TV3 will launch a new look in February 2011.

[edit]

Does anyone know if this is true? Can't find any articles backing this up? Eddiemundo (talk) 16:19, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

They may be planning new set idents (which is normal for any channel), but re-branding is really required that new logo is horrible IMO. Also how is the Logo Modified in 2010?IrishTV (talk) 17:19, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Franchise Dispute

[edit]

In 1989 the IRTC received four applications for the television broadcasting license. Three of the applicants subsequently withdrew on the grounds that a service distributed solely on subscription platforms (cable and MMDS) was not economically viable and the license was awarded to the remaining applicant. Later TV3 also decided that being restricted to subscription platforms threatened the services viability and the IRTC eventually agreed they could be also distributed free to air on analogue terrestrial UHF. One of the earlier applicants then threatened to bring legal action against the IRTC if the franchise was not readvertised. What (if anything) became of this legal action ? 2.127.209.195 (talk) 21:03, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to amend viewing share on Irish television channels

[edit]

Hi all, I am looking to update the viewing share for the Irish channels (Virgin Media One, Virgin Media Two, Virgin Media Three, RTÈ One, RTÈ 2, TG4 and EirSport 1) using TAM Nielsen data from 2019. However, I have a Conflict of Interest. I made some slight amends to Virgin Media Television and Virgin Media One (apologies, I should have raised a Conflict of Interest on those too). Seeing as I want to do it across all channels, I'm hoping to get a consensus to go ahead. DarkerDai (talk) 23:37, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
