Charts section format

[edit]

It's come to my attention that, instead of trying to discuss their problem with it (or providing any reason at all for it), a user is continually reverting the format edits to the Chart performance section which has split the one long table into two smaller ones. Blind reversions without reason or explanation are not the way to build Wikipedia articles. I've pointed out multiple times in my edit summaries that this format increases readability and makes the page seem less listy. What's more, if the article should ever go to GAN or FAC this split format will need to be implemented at that time if it is kept to a single long list now. Instead of an edit war, discussing the issue here seems more prudent. As it stands, the lack of a reason provided for the blind reverts makes it seem that a reason for them cannot be provided. Actually why have you spilt them in the first place, on all other hcarts it is in a full chart list what's the point i'm sure other people would agree with me, it just looks like there are 2 different charts! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iluvrihanna24 (talkcontribs) 17:18, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have split them for all the reasons I outlined above. It is clear that it is the same chart by the heading, which reads "Chart (2010)". On what "all other charts"? Those on articles that have not been peer reviewed or further? Look at FA examples of song articles, all of which have it split into two: Baby Boy (song), Cool (Gwen Stefani song), Déjà Vu (Beyoncé Knowles song), the list goes on and on. It is the proper format when a chart gets overly long, as is the case here. Thirteen listings is too long for a single column. This isn't worth an edit war over. There are GA articles with the charts list in one column, e.g. All Through the Night (Cyndi Lauper song), Already Gone (Kelly Clarkson song), Beat It, Bohemian Rhapsody, just to pick a few from the top of the list. If there's a notion that beyond a certain number the charts table gets split into two columns, that guideline should be added to WP:CHARTS and/or WP:MUSTARD#Record charts. Then it will be clear to everyone and there won't be edit battles like this. Wasted Time R (talk) 01:27, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
