Chander Krishnakant Khote innocent ?

[edit]

I am editing the section which says that he "...never killed anyone" as he himself admits, to impress Satya when he is sent by Kallu Mama to show him his kholi, about how important component a part of Bhikhu Mhatre Gang he is. He says that "बाजू की गल्ली में अपुन ने दो जनो का गेम बजा डाला"  Jon Ascton  (talk) 05:10, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Mittal waali file kholu kya main teri." So says Bhiku to Chandu (the jewelry shop scene about 90 minutes into the film). I don't think Chandu has killed _anyone_. He was simply showing off. Last Contrarian (talk) 10:50, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hm...you may be right. Anyway I am impressed by your interest in the film. Same here. I've watched it for may be fifty times. Great movie. Yeah, it seems he's just boasting to impress Satya, he's lying. No real killer would say that before a person who he doesn't even know properly (he's been introduced to Satya just at most half an hour ago). And besides Bhikhu bhai himself tells us that he fainted when he saw a man being shot during extortion at Mittal General Store, as you observe. Another factor that is in favour of your argument is that he was killed so easily, it seems the police was not there especially to kill him, Chander just happened to be the wrong place at the wrong time. An experienced killer would not have been that foolish. Yeah, it seems he was clean, just a wannabe, as Bhikhu (or perhaps Mama) says in the end, " भाई बनने की खुजली थी साले को...". If you really think he's innocent make the necessary change.
Pleased to know you !  Jon Ascton  (talk) 14:19, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I changed it to the way it was before while noting that he boasts about killing two people. Last Contrarian (talk) 21:22, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Ganpati immersion sequence in the climax

[edit]

I am extremely confident that the procession sequences and Bhau' murder were shot independent of each other. Very likely that I heard it on Anurag Kashyap's "Director's Cut" interview on Zoom that was telecast on April 6, 2008. Need independent corroboration of the fact. Anyone? Last Contrarian (talk) 23:21, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't go by someone else's corroboration. Instead please search for reliable sources to cite this aspect in the article. My two cents. Mspraveen (talk) 11:32, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The episode is a reliable source, if only I can find it. Unfortunately, it is not available on Zoom TV's YouTube channel. Last Contrarian (talk) 17:55, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Found another source. RGV himself. Last Contrarian (talk) 15:24, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Coming not just from WP:India's Assessment team, but also as someone from WP:Indian cinema, it was quite a pleasure to see this article in its present form. I'm sure the editors have done a commendable job. Construe this as a short review of the article. I hope you'll have something to gain from it so that you can look forward to improve this further.

  • For the article's subject, which is so old and at a time when it was miserly covered by media, citations seem to be fine and from reliable sources on most occasions. The cast section should further be cited for those lacking citations.
  • At times, esp. in the cast section, there are excessive number of characters (some of whom I didn't find a mention in the plot - Ronu Sagar, Pakya, Bappu). Those not impressing in the plot section should be avoided.
  • Try to reduce weasel words in the article. Things like "considered to be a blockbuster" is POV even if the popular thought might suggest it. Try wording such that it is more encyclopedic in tone.
  • Short and stubby sections and sub-sections may be merged together. A Release and reception section may contain information beginning with information about distribution and continue with how it was received at the box office. Reviews, criticisms and comparison, and finally awards could be the concluding part of this section. For example, you may refer to the styling I adopted in Rang De Basanti.
Hope these comments help the editors out. Should there be any questions or anything that needs a discussion, I may be contacted via my talk page. Finally, I see a good potential with this article improving on further given that the above aspects are considered and worked upon. Good luck with editing! Will begin soon. JAGUAR 15:13, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • " It is the first of Varma's gangster trilogy" - 'Gangster' should be capitalised and italicised since it's the actual name of the trilogy
  • " but decided to make a film about criminals after meeting some criminals" - repetition. Try but decided to make a film focusing on felony after meeting some criminals
  • "Its early cinematography was by the American Gerard Hooper, who was replaced by Mazhar Kamran" - I'd remove "the American" as it sounds awkward. And what is early cinematography referring to here? Does it mean that Hooper directed the cinematography for the first half of the film or did he originally plan to do the whole film but was replaced later on?
Actually Gerar Hooper could devote enough time to the project and left when it was thirty percent complete. Yashthepunisher (talk) 04:53, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • "and helped launch a number of careers (especially Kashyap and Bajpayee)" - (especially for Kashyap and Bajpayee)
  • "Film critic Rajeev Masand called it one of the "most influential movies of the past ten years", and it inspired several sequels." - this should be split into two sentences. Also, can you list a couple of examples of the inspired sequels?
  • I've done a bit of copyediting in the lead and have merged the two last paragraphs into one per WP:LEADLENGTH
  • "When they step out for a drink during intermission" - the intermission
  • "Satya arrives at Kallu Mama's place" - 'place' sounds a bit informal. 'House' or 'residence' would sound better
  • "but Satya insists on going to Vidya's place first" - again
  • "Satya was filmed in Mumbai during the monsoon" - 'the monsoon' makes it sound too singular. How about a monsoon or the monsoon season?
  • "Varma instructed him to re-shoot it and taught him "how to communicate with the cameraman"" - I'm not sure why this is in quotes. It could read fine without them
  • "However, he could devote enough time to the project and left" - could not devote (missing word)
  • "and dubbed Telugu- and Tamil-language versions" - stray hyphen after Telugu
  • "Satya received an A (adults-only) certificate, with no objections" - no objections from whom? The board reviewing the film?
  • " with a 97-percent occupancy rate in its third week" - no need for the hyphen
  • "Although Satya is known for its realistic depiction of the underworld" - might be worth specifying this with Indian underworld or probably Mumbai?
  • "Satya has achieved cult status, and is cited as one of the best Hindi gangster films for its realistic portrayal of violence; it paved the way for future gangster films" - paving the way for future gangster films

Sounds like a good film! I have watched a few Telugu films in the past and have thoroughly enjoyed them. Sorry for the delay in reviewing this. I've done some copyediting here and there and fixed some of the more minor issues, but other than that this article is solid enough and should meet the GA criteria with some shine. I'll check back once the issues above are clarified. JAGUAR 19:22, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Jaguar, All done. Thanks for your comments. Yashthepunisher (talk) 04:51, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Yash. I've looked through this article again and it appears to meet the GA criteria. Let's promote this. JAGUAR 19:24, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
