Beginning the editing process
[edit]I have begun to bring this page up to speed, following two other templates, the North Carolina and UCLA pages. I have began to add coaching records and have also started to edit the sections. --Tedmoseby (talk) 20:57, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Separation/delineation of Lute Olson from UA basketball history
[edit]As most fans know, Lute Olson essentially is UA basketball. This article reads as such. However, with the recent sabbatical of Olson and the hiring of interim coach Kevin O'Neill, it is the perfect time to start adding some UA basketball history from the pre-Olson era, as well as preparing this article for when the next head coach is named, following Olson's retirement.
This article needs to cover the entire basketball program (past and future) and not just the Olson era. If anyone has any information on the WAC title Snowden won please feel free to add more. --Tedmoseby (talk) 20:57, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Players
[edit]I have added information on player awards and retired numbers. If anyone knows more about All-americans please feel free to edit.--Tedmoseby (talk) 07:25, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Post Season
[edit]I have added all the Pac-10 post season accolades as well as all the Tournament history, including seeding and the 1997 title run with game scores. I took this idea from the Duke site.--Tedmoseby (talk) 07:25, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
GA Fail
[edit]I'm sorry to inform you that this article meets the quick fail requirements for Good Article reviewing. Because of the cleanup tags in the article, I am failing the article. Also, the article is inadequately referenced to be a GA. Please fully reference the article and fix the problems the article is tagged with before renomination. Thanks. "Vacated by NCAA"
[edit]This is mentioned three times, but no explanations or links are given. Could someone please edit this to indicate why that happened? Samer (talk) 17:06, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- I too am wondering this as well. When I added the records I didn't put that in there since I had never heard of it. But someone else went in and added them. I couldn't find anything to disprove it or confirm so I left it. Tedmoseby (talk) 17:28, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- An edit was recently added indicating that Arizona forfeited its 61-60 loss to Oklahoma. I do not believe this is that same as Arizona vacating its 1999 tournament appearance. If Arizona vacated the '99 appearance, then why does the media continually cite Arizona's NCAA consecutive tournament appearances record? By the definition for "vacate," such an appearances record should not exist if Arizona vacated its only 1999 tournament game. Yet the media does not mention this. This is unlike media mentions of UCLA's vacated final four appearance, or Michigan's vacated championship. I am therefore changing "vacated" to "forfeited", since this is what the linked article states. Regards. Tedmoseby (talk) 03:14, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- Both the NCAA record book (pg 54) and Arizona media guide (pg 53) refer to it as a "vacated game", i'll add that as a reference too. Sometimes the media uses the words vacated and forfeited interchangeably. Ryan2845 (talk) 04:09, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying "vacated." But I don't see any indication that the game was "vacated" by the NCAA, but rather by Arizona, which is a major difference. Regards Tedmoseby (talk) 04:39, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- There's really no difference. Arizona vacated the game because NCAA bylaws stipulated they had to, so it's vacated in the eyes of the NCAA too. Ryan2845 (talk) 04:57, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ryan2845, Your recent edit to this page appears to not be in good faith regarding the 25-game tournament appearance streak. If it was, you would have edited the text to past tense rather than simply deleting it. I have reinserted what you deleted, changed the text to past tense, and have cited the text with three reputable sources (New York Times, Rivals/Yahoo Sports and Arizona Daily Star). The 1999 vacated appearance is noted. You appear to inserting your own point of view into your editing. Otherwise, major publications would not be writing about the end of Arizona's streak. Regards Tedmoseby (talk) 23:01, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
Copied list
[edit]The section "Arizona Basketball cumulative all time statistics" was pretty obviously copied from the "Kentucky Basketball cumulative all time statistics" section in Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball. Many of the numbers were updated, but errors remain, particularly in the NCAA rank. I've fixed some of the ones I could absolutely document, but I don't have time to do them all. Jbfwildcat (talk · contribs) has put in a ridiculous amount of time compiling this data for the Kentucky Wildcats page, and I don't know where he got all of his material. Regardless, the information needs to be cleaned up. Acdixon (talk · contribs) 17:09, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- Banned user re-added the copied list from the Kentucky page again after Jbfwildcat (talk · contribs) removed it almost two years ago, subsequent to the previous comment. I deleted numerous obviously false (and utterly nonsensical -- e.g., "0 players named NCAA All-Final Four a total of 21 times") claims that still haven't been corrected over the intervening two years, including a number of things directly copied from the original list. Some of the data looks to have been previously corrected, and I made a few easy corrections of my own, but Arizona basketball is definitely not my area of expertise, so there is probably more work to be done. I was of half a mind to kill everything derived from Jbfwildcat's list, given how long and through how many other edits the errors have gone uncorrected, but it appears that one or more users at least put some minimal amount of effort into updating some -- though far from all -- of the data, so I went with adding tags for disputed accuracy and lack of citations instead. If someone believes more drastic measures are warranted, feel free. I also re-graded the article to C-class in light of the foregoing. João Do Rio (talk) 10:45, 16 February 2017 (UTC)

Bruce Larson era
[edit]There needs to be a section on Bruce Larson, who was the Wildcats head coach between the Enke and Snowden eras. Under his tenure, the University began planning for what would become McKale Center as a replacement for Bear Down Gym. [1]--Msr69er (talk) 15:04, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
