Move request

[edit]
  • Support. Derek Ross | Talk 19:02, Mar 9, 2005 (UTC) -- There is a big difference between the A830 and the Road to the Isles. It probably makes even more sense to move the current contents of the "Road to the Isles" article to a new "A830" article but it should be noted that the historical Road to the Isles starts a lot further east than Fort William (Perth really) and is the subject of song and story to an extent which demands a separate article on it. It should not just be a redirect to a relatively short, narrow road.
  • Support. Our Phellap | Talk 01:29, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC) - I agree that the current content is more relevant to the A830 road page. A separate Road to the Isles detailing the historic road (rather than the "nickname" for the A830) should be created at a later date.

This article has been renamed as the result of a move request. Road to the IslesA830 road. violet/riga (t) 17:23, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Road to the Isles

[edit]

I thing the song Road to the Isles should be mentioned in connection with the ancient road refered to in the third paragraph of the text. Lyrics to this song can be found on various sites, e.g. http://www.incallander.co.uk/scottishsongs/song34.htm

Also mention of the history of this road (or at least the route of the A830 as opposed to the ancient Road to the Isles) should be considered. According to Undiscovered Scotland (http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/mallaig/mallaig/index.html), the road terminated at Arisaig in 1812 and it wasn't until the 1890s that it finally reached Mallaig (followed soon after by the Iron Road to the Isles) Brewphilip 23:05, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Song

[edit]

The article states that the song " mention locations the road passes..". This is clearly incorrect. For instance Tummel and Loch Rannoch are miles away from the A830 and are served by the B846 which ends at Rannoch Station. 2A02:C7C:C903:DB00:7DDC:7FBD:3E6C:4CE5 (talk) 18:36, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
