Community discussion

[edit]

A community discussion at the administrators' noticeboard has placed all pages with content related to blockchain and cryptocurrencies, broadly construed, under indefinite general sanctions, effective 14:43, 22 May 2018 (UTC).

Remedies

[edit]

The remedies mirror those of WP:ARBPIA (see below for details). Sanctions imposed cannot be undone by another administrator without approval of the sanctioning administrator or by an appeal to WP:AN. Pages may be tagged with {{Gs/talk notice|crypto}}, and {{Gs/editnotice|crypto}} may be used to indicate that articles are under general sanctions. The presence of these templates is not a prerequisite for issuing sanctions, but editors should be made aware of them prior to being sanctioned. Editors must be notified of discretionary sanctions with the {{subst:gs/alert|cry}} template. For blocks, use {{subst:Uw-csblock}}.

  • Any uninvolved administrator may, at his or her own discretion, impose sanctions on any editor working in the area of conflict if, despite being warned, that editor repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, any expected standards of behavior, or any normal editorial process.
  • The sanctions imposed may include blocks of up to one year in length, bans from editing any page or set of pages within the area of conflict, bans on any editing related to the topic or its closely related topics, restrictions on reverts or other specified behaviors; or any other measures which the imposing administrator believes are reasonably necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the project.
  • Prior to any sanctions being imposed, the editor shall be given a warning with a link to this decision and, where appropriate, should be counseled on specific steps that he or she can take to improve his or her editing in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Additionally, any uninvolved administrator may impose on any page or set of pages relating to the area of conflict page protection, revert restrictions, prohibitions on the addition or removal of certain content (except when consensus for the edit exists), or any other reasonable measure that the enforcing administrator believes is necessary and proportionate for the smooth running of the project. Administrators should add an editnotice and talk page notice on restricted pages. Editors who ignore or breach page restrictions may be sanctioned by any uninvolved administrator only if the editor was warned about this decision and an editnotice describing the page restriction was placed on the restricted page.
  • Sanctions imposed may be appealed to the imposing administrator or at the appropriate administrators' noticeboard.

In addition, a one-revert rule, which does not require notice, with the following specifications is imposed:

  • All articles related to the blockchain and cryptocurrencies, broadly construed, are placed under WP:1RR (one revert per editor per article per 24 hour period). When in doubt, assume an edit is related and so is a revert.
    • Clear vandalism of whatever origin may be reverted without restriction. Reverts of edits made by anonymous IP editors that are not vandalism are exempt from 1RR but are subject to the usual rules on edit warring.
    • Editors who otherwise violate this 1RR restriction may be blocked without warning by any uninvolved administrator, even on a first offence.

Log of notifications

[edit]
Manually logging notifications is no longer required when using {{subst:Gs/alert|cry}}. This section is retained for historical purposes.

This is a historical list of editors who have been notified of the sanctions. To notify an editor, use {{subst:Gs/alert|cry}}. This will trigger filter 602. There is no longer a need to log notifications manually. Editors who log a notification here are also considered to be aware of the sanctions.
