West Tanjung Jabung Regency (Kabupaten Tanjung Jabung Barat) is a regency of Jambi Province, Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency was created on 4 October 1999 by the division of the then Tanjung Jabung Regency into eastern and western halves. The western regency now has an area of 5,009.82 km2 and had a population of 278,741 as at the 2010 census[2] and 317,498 at the 2020 census;[3] the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 331,058 (comprising 170,606 males and 160,452 females).[1] The regency seat is the town of Kuala Tungkal, a port at the mouth of the Tungkal River.
Administrative districts
[edit]The regency is divided into thirteen districts (kecamatan), tabulated below with their areas and their populations at the 2010 census[2] and the 2020 census,[3] together with the official estimates as at mid 2023.[1] The table also includes the locations of the district administrative centres, and the number of villages in each district (totaling 114 rural desa and 20 urban kelurahan - the latter comprising 8 in Tungkal Ilir District, and one in each of the other 12 districts), and its post code.
