Thousands of youth gathered in Goma, North Kivu province, to celebrate Amani festival. The word “Amani” means “Peace” in Swahili, one of the local languages. The festival, which was organized under the theme “Play for Change and Sing for Peace”, took place in the regional capital of eastern D.R. Congo between 14 and 16 February 2014. The festival aimed at attracting world attention on the plight of the populations in eastern D. R. Congo through music and dance. “We Sing for Peace because it represents our hope for North Kivu. Our people have never wanted peace so badly”, the organizers of the event wrote on their website (www.amanifestival.com). A dozen regionally and world known artists attended the event along with a pleiad of local ones. Photo: MONUSCO/Clara Padovan
