María Gabriela de Jesús Isler Morales (Spanish pronunciation: [ɡaˈβɾjela isˈleɾ]; born March 21, 1988)[2] is a Venezuelan model, presenter, and former beauty queen who gained international recognition by winning the titles of Miss Venezuela 2012 and Miss Universe 2013.

She was crowned as Miss Universe in 2013 and passed on her crown in early 2015. Following her reign, Isler accepted a proposal from Donald Trump to work with the Miss Universe Organization in business and export for two years.[3]

Early life

[edit]

Isler was born in the city of Valencia, Venezuela, to a Venezuelan mother and a Swiss father of German ancestry.[4][5] She moved to Maracay during her childhood.[6] At age 14, she started modeling as a way to cheer her mother and grandmother up after her aunt died.[7]

She graduated with a BA in Marketing Management from the Universidad Tecnológica del Centro.[8]

Career

[edit]

As Miss Venezuela 2012, Isler represented the state of Guárico, where she won the title.[9][10] She then went on to represent Venezuela in the Miss Universe 2013 pageant in Moscow, Russia, where she became the seventh Venezuelan to win the Miss Universe crown.[11][12] During her reign, she traveled extensively and participated in numerous charity and promotional events.[13][14]

In addition to her pageantry career, Isler has worked in media, hosting the Miss Venezuela 2014 pageant and serving as a spokesperson for various social campaigns.[15]

Isler became the founder of the "Universe of Blessings Fund", a charity organization dedicated to helping educate adolescents in Venezuela.[16]

Personal life

[edit]

She married Venezuelan businessman Alberto Figueroa in 2018, and the couple has a son, Joaquín Figueroa Isler, born in 2021.[17]
