- File:Americangothic.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Aratuk (notify | contribs | uploads).
This image is replaced by the free version that I've uploaded here, and the links to the appropriate pages was resolved by OgreBot. Therefore, this no longer adds any encyclopedic value to the one already given by my file, and even if it has a free license, it doesn't specify a source, which is unacceptable as a free upload to Commons. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 05:23, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- File:UserPageErrorMessage.PNG (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by *Kat* (notify | contribs | uploads).
I created and uploaded this because I thought it was a fake error message.
I had WP open in a three different tabs and none of the other pages were having any problems (I reloaded them all), but this page gave me this error message, twice. So I thought the CSS might have been manipulated. I was going to file a report with AN/I but just before it was to be submitted I decided to try the page one more time, and this time it loaded. So I checked the page's history and found that no modifications had been made that would cause the page to display a fake error message.
Therefore I think this image can be safely deleted. *Kat* (meow?) 09:30, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I went ahead and nominated this for speedy deletion per WP:CSD#G7. Feel free to make speedy deletion requests if you think the deletion would be uncontroversial.AerobicFox (talk) 00:16, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned. It used to be fairly common to use transparent images for purposes of spacing on websites, but it is now recommended to do this with CSS. B (talk) 16:29, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- File:Bgang98c.gif (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Cjmarsicano (notify | contribs | uploads).
Non-free image of a 90's band being used in an infobox about the band. This violates WP:NFCC #8 as this photo's omission would not be "detrimental" to understanding the topic. Further, the image description page says, "Mike Watt, as the owner and subject of the photograph, has supported the use of photographs of himself and his bands on Wikipedia without objection in the past, and is wholly unlikely to object to the use of this image on Wikipedia." If that's the case, then we should have a reasonable expectation of receiving an image under an acceptable license. B (talk) 16:49, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- File:Hope Diamond US Mail parcel-1958.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Archiveltd (notify | contribs | uploads).
Delete: the use of this non-free image fails WP:NFCC#8 because the readers' understand that the Hope Diamond was posted to the Smithsonian Institution by registered mail is already clearly explained in the prose without the necessity to use a non-free image and its removal in no way detracts from that understanding. ww2censor (talk) 19:38, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep: the image already enabled me to correct the article which stated the stone was shipped in "a brown paper bag". Furthermore the image is not clearly non-free, the tag {{Non-free USGov-USPS stamp}} appears to be wrong as the stamps are 1958 not 1978 or later. The Smithsonian licences its images under a non-commercial license, however if we follow the Foundation's statement that faithful 2d renderings of 2d objects do not create a new copyright, then the copyright we are interested in is that of the wrapper itself. It is far from clear that casually created items like this have the creative content required to maintain a copyright "original works of authorship", nor, if they do, who that copyright would have vested in. Rich Farmbrough, 15:16, 4 March 2011 (UTC).[reply]
- Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion so a clearer consensus may be reached.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, SchuminWeb (Talk) 19:00, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Rich's argument seems to be correct. The stamps, markings, etc, on the envelope (or bag, whatever) itself are all in the public domain. A 2-D scan of a 2-D object is public domain. I don't see any reason why that wouldn't apply to this envelope. --B (talk) 20:18, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Useless photoshop for a departed user. Derived from File:Hyperia.jpg, but the image description page fails to make attribution. (Sure, that's a solvable problem, but there's no point in keeping a useless image.) B (talk) 22:24, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
