Broadcasted

The Wiktionary definition of Broadcasted states the use is sometimes proscribed, so it should not be used. The word also appears on Wikipedia:Lists_of_common_misspellings/B

Broadcasted appears in some dictionaries, but others, e.g. Chambers state "Sorry, no entries for Broadcasted were found".
Broadcast appears in all dictionaries, and should be used as COMMONALITY - "Wikipedia tries to find words that are common to all varieties of English".

A September 2021 search for Broadcast gave over 220,000 uses, compared with a search for Broadcasted which gave just 86.
Of these 86, 16 are redirects to "Broadcast" articles, 14 refer to a 2015 Canadian TV award and 5 relate to a 1924 cartoon. The rest are in quotations.

Sudeep DOB

The current reference for DOB is not accessible (at least to me). This one from Firstpost, a Network 18 outlet, suggests that his birth year is 1973. Thoughts? OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:30, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ohnoitsjamie - I can't access the cited source either. Firstpost is, generally, fairly reliable, or at least, not listed as unreliable. I've been looking for other sources, but most of these are on the WP:RSP list, so I'm struggling for any other reliable sources. Obviously the sudden interest is because today is his birthday, and I'm always suspicious about actors/actresses DoBs changing to make them younger, but I can't refute your firstpost ref. Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 17:52, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I share your annoyance with people fiddling with their publicized birthdates. I tend err on the side of not reporting it at all if there aren't any good sources. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:06, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ohnoitsjamie - yes, I was friends at Uni with a musician who was 2 months older than me, until he had a hit record and was suddenly 3 years younger - even he was surprised - his agent hadn't told him - Arjayay (talk) 21:12, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You rollbacked vandalism correctly, but took it back to another vandalised version. The vandal, Madhavg2213 is socking around! 2405:201:4013:80F5:B187:1062:5D0:21A1 (talk) 22:32, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In need of feedback

Hello Arjayay. Could you give some feedback on Canon law of the Eastern Orthodox Church? Is the article accessible enough for you, as someone who does not have any background on the matter? Are the titles of the sections descriptive and precise enough? Is the article tidy, narrow and clear enough? Any other comment? Veverve (talk) 11:08, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Veverve - you are correct; I don't "have any background on the matter" and I'm not a new article reviewer either.
Overall it seems relatively clear, although to me, there are far too many quotations (about 45?). These quotations also make the lead, with multiple sets of square brackets to add in missing words, read awkwardly.
Finally, I'm not sure about the "with" in "Differences with civil law" and "Differences with canon laws of other Churches" - I think things are different from, or different to, not different with. Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 11:39, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried to reduce the number of quotes as much as I could. What do you say? Veverve (talk) 09:59, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Veverve - there are still about 40 quotes - which I still think is too many - and I don't see why you think they are needed as quotes. As you state "The canon law of the Eastern Orthodox Church is not codified" so, there is no definitive document that can be quoted, in order to be accurate - your quotations are just other writers' opinions.
As per MOS:QUOTE "Using too many quotes is incompatible with an encyclopedic writing style and may be a copyright infringement. It is generally recommended that content be written in Wikipedia editors' own words. Consider paraphrasing quotations into plain and concise text."
I suspect you are more used to writing in an essay/dissertation/thesis style, where more quotations are required, unlike the encyclopaedic writing style needed for Wikipedia.
I think your "Comparisons" section deals with my concern about "differences with" - but you now have 5 errors, producing a lot of red text in" Notes a"
Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 12:17, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am almost at my wit's end with those quotes. I have tried as much as I could to remove them, and the banner you put is blocking my DYK nomination. Do you think the banner can be removed now? Veverve (talk) 18:37, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry Veverve, but I really can't see much re-wording at all - I have removed the quotes from the lead, by rewording them, as an example, and have removed the over-quotation template, along with correcting several spelling and WP:ENGVAR errors. - Arjayay (talk) 20:03, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies

Hello - apologies about the revert of the pending edit the other day. I had meant to remove the entire section but forgot rollback on Twinkle only worked on the latest user. My sincerest apologies. Seloloving (talk) 14:42, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

spelling correction for "Shafqat Amanat Ali"

Hi there! thanks for your spelling correction to the page for Shafqat Amanat Ali. you corrected "rigourously" to "rigorously" and that would be the correct US spelling. however, the page asks to use UK spellings, hence the extra "u." the whole page uses British spellings. :) Priyanka2330 (talk) 20:28, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Priyanka2330 as a Brit I'd like to think that I understand the principles of WP:ENGVAR, although I have been wrong before.
As per Wiktionary, Rigourously is not the British English version, it is a "non‐standard" spelling, which my spellcheck - set to British English - also identifies as a misspelling. It is also listed at The list of common misspellings - R.
Conversely rigorously is the "standard" spelling - so as per WP:COMMONALITY that is the spelling we use - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 21:05, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
thanks so much Arjayay! as you can see, I did not undo your edit w/o first asking you about it on your talk page. I stand corrected. It is fascinating that the commonly accepted US/UK spelling variation of rigor/rigour does not carry over to rigorous(ly)/rigourous(ly). one learns something new every day! I appreciate the help and clarification. :) Priyanka2330 (talk) 21:20, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Past tense

Hello, Arjayay. I have one question about this edit. Is "casted" not a past tense form of "cast'? That whole sentence has to be written in the past tense! Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 10:57, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Мастер Шторм: not Arjayay, but it is not. "Cast" is the correct form, see here. Veverve (talk) 11:38, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Мастер Шторм - I totally agree with Veverve - who I would like to thank for stepping-in - and that is a useful list that I was unaware of - Arjayay (talk) 11:54, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Veverve & Arjayay. Soft and warm bear hugs! • Мастер Шторм (talk) 11:31, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Stop Vandalising DPS Noida Page

The motto has changed from Service before Self to Better before Bhasin. Please update yourself. I am a teacher at the school, and can verify this.

No, You are the vandal - as clearly seen here - and please do not make personal attacks - either about the principal, which you keep doing with your false "motto", or even about me, especially in the article itself. - Arjayay (talk) 20:52, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correction my errors!

Hi Arjayay, you seem to find a duplicate word in virtually every article I write soon after I move them to the mainspace. Thanks for consistently saving me from my own mistakes. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 16:11, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No worries Modussiccandi - it is what us Wikignomes do, but thanks for the thanks, it is nice to be appreciated.
I have been trying to understand the sheer numbers of such errors (not all by you!) for some time. Could you please tell me whether you use a spell/grammar checker? and also whether you edit on a phone or small tablet? (In my experience, duplicate words often occur at line end/line beginning, which there are more of on smaller screens) - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 16:23, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I edit on a lap top and I very rarely use spell checkers (only before GA or FA candidacy or such). For me, these error come about when I pause to think about what I want to write. Sometimes I put down the article ("the"), think for a second, and then write my noun of choice plus article (e.g. 'the children'). That's how you get "the the children". Hope this helps. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 16:33, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As for your request - I'm sorry, but no. I only write articles on subjects I know something about and am interested in - neither of which apply to this poet - Arjayay (talk) 10:32, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Emailtouser is blocked as sockpuppet. Previously blocked. Multiple times. Creates new accounts and pesters people at random to create an article about his father. David notMD (talk) 12:12, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks David notMD - I suspected a sock - new editors don't usually post on my talk page as their very first edit - but I couldn't remember / work out who the puppet-master was (closest I got was User:Electrouser, but I knew that was wrong). Thanks again - Arjayay (talk) 12:24, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Goes back to User:HARSH VARDHAN SHARMA "TARA", early August, and many socks. David notMD (talk) 13:28, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Afghanistan, British Protectorate State

There is significant amount of evidence I have added in the TALK page [1] of Second Anglo-Afghan War where it clearly states in all 8 references that Afghanistan was a PROTECTORATE state. Will you be ok to add correct information and references in the infobox of the article? Same for article British protectorate, where Afghanistan has been incorrectly added under Protected state instead of Protectorate state. 199.82.243.102 (talk) 11:41, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
