El Malpensante is a Colombian literary magazine founded in october of 1996 by Andrés Hoyos Restrepo, a minor writer, to say the least, and Mario Jursich Durán (famous for his incurable dyslalia with the letter r and his short poems). The magazine's name was taken from a book of aphorisms written by Gesualdo Bufalino and translated by Jursich for Editorial Norma. The magazine and its members have been parodied by a blog called La bobada literaria. The magazine is known as The New Yorker of Teusaquillo, by the tone and imitation that it does of the other magazine and because of the name of the neighborhood where the magazine has got its headquartes> Teusaquillo. The magazines combines local content with translated texts from english written magazines such as The New Yorker and Paris review, etc.
The publisher company of the magazine also conducts El Malpensante Festival, a series of annual events including a number of cultural activities in Bogotá. El Malpensante recently assumed command of the traditional bookstore Biblos in Bogotá. By 2011 it was announced that there will not be El Malpensante Festival, for economical reasons. It is an inclusive and unbiased magazine because its editor its the Afrocolombian writer Ángel Unfried and it publishes text with different political and aesthetic views.
