Clan of Xymox

Clan of Xymox are a darkwave band from the Netherlands.

History

Ronny Moorings began making music in The Netherlands under the name Xymox, self-publishing the EP "Subsequent Pleasures" in 1984. In 1985 Moorings's roommate Pieter Nooten joined the band, and shortly after they were signed to the prestigious London Indie label 4AD. Renaming the band "Clan of Xymox", they released their eponymous debut album in 1985. In 1988 the EPs "Blind Hearts" and "A Million Things" reached number 1 spot in Rockpool and Billboard.[citation needed] As US success grew, Clan of Xymox left 4AD, and signed with PolyGram.

The third album, "Twist of Shadows" (1989), was produced by Pete Walsh. With Twist of Shadows came even bigger success: sales of 300,000 copies; EP/single release for the big no 1 club hits "Obsession" and "Blind Hearts"; while "Imagination" - on single, on EP and as MTV video (with Anke on vocals) - made the billboard charts.

The band's fourth album, Phoenix, was released worldwide in 1991 as their last album on PolyGram. In the 1990s, Moorings began to to experiment with other directions, resulting in the (X-ULT/ZOK/Xymox Control) releases of the albums Metamorphosis in 1991 and Headclouds in 1992.

Mojca Zugna made both artworks for the band and joined later (after their move back to the Netherlands in 1995 ) as a live keyboard player for their Dutch try out tour in 1995. Other members of the "Headclouds" tour were Will Anvers on drums and Frank Weyzig on guitar.

In 1997 Moorings ended the Xymox era and restarted Clan of Xymox; he recruited new live members and started touring. The band signed with the independent label, Tess Records, and released Hidden Faces. The band, consisting of Ronny Moorings guitars and vocals, Mojca Zugna bass guitar, keyboards and vocals, Rob Vonk guitar, keyboards and back vocals, Rui Ramos drums, and Nina Simic keyboards, went on to tour extensively, co-headlining the Wave-Gotik-Treffen and Zillo festivals in Germany, where two singles from Hidden Faces - "Out Of The Rain" and "This World" - both reached the top 10 in the independent charts.

In 1998 Clan Of Xymox got signed by Metropolis Records in the USA and Pandaimonium Records in Europe. In 2000 the band released Live, a double CD with nineteen tracks and two videos. The lineup consisted of Moorings on guitars & vocals; Mojca Zugna on bass guitar, keyboards and vocals; Rui Ramos drums; and Nina Simic on keyboards. The tracks were recorded during their Central and South American tour in 1999

Farewell was released in September 2003, followed by Breaking Point, in April 2006. The CD single Heroes, containing two interpretations of David Bowie's song "Heroes," was released in May 2007. The band's most recent album, In Love We Trust, was released in 2009.
