  • curprev 10:5610:56, 20 December 2023Pankaceplace talk contribs 50,931 bytes −658 According to Herbert Reiter in the 'Ritutal of May Day in Western Europe' chapter two International Workers' Day was not created in honor of the Haymarket massacre, that is a post-hoc invention by communist and anarchist celebrations well after the Second International voted to make 1 May a holiday in 1889. The date was chosen to coincide with the traditional May Day festivals and because it ment the first celebration would be on a Sunday, but they are still unrelated. undo
