Narcos is an American crime drama television series that debuted on August 28, 2015, on Netflix.[1] The series was created by Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro, and directed by Brazilian filmmaker José Padilha. It is a serialized take on drug kingpin Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel, as well as United States DEA agents.[2] The first season consists of 10 episodes. The series was renewed for a second season on September 3, 2015.[3]

Cast

Production

The series was announced in April 2014 as part of a partnership between Netflix and Telemundo. The series is written by Chris Brancato and directed by Brazilian filmmaker José Padilha (Elite Squad, Elite Squad: The Enemy Within, RoboCop), after directing the 2014 Robocop remake and 2011’s Rio de Janeiro-set crime drama Elite Squad: The Enemy Within.[10] It is based on the true-life story of the growth and spread of cocaine drug cartels across the globe and attendant efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. It centers around the notorious Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) and Steve Murphy (Holbrook), a DEA agent sent to Colombia on a U.S. mission to capture and ultimately kill him.[11] The series was shot on location in Colombia in the second half of 2014.[10]
