[edit]Inherited from Proto-Southwestern Tai *ɣɔːkᴰᴸ⁴ (“enclosure for animals”), from Middle Chinese 牿 (MC kowk). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨣᩕᩬᨠ, ᨤᩬᨠ, Lao ຄອກ (khǭk), Tai Dam ꪁꪮꪀ, Shan ၶွၵ်ႈ (khāuk), Tai Nüa ᥑᥩᥐ (xoak), Phake ၵွက် (khok), Ahom 𑜁𑜨𑜀𑜫 (khok). Cognate via Chinese: Saek กฺ้อก, Zhuang gog, Zuojiang Zhuang hog. Possibly doublet of คุก (kúk).
