[edit]From older candano, from a substrate language, from Proto-Celtic *kando-, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kand- (“to shine, glow”); compare Latin candeō (“glow”) and Ancient Greek κάνδαρος (kándaros, “charcoal”).[1]
