[edit]Inherited from Middle Dutch nâlôpen, nâerlôpen, from Old Dutch *nālōpan, from Proto-West Germanic *nāhwahlaupan. Equivalent to na- (“after”) + lopen (“to walk”). Cognate with German nachlaufen.
