[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Your latest entries do not have a ===part of speech=== or a headword. They need to be fixed. SemperBlotto 15:44, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
They're irregular forms — my dictionary doesn't even give a headword or POS for either. I don't know the correct way to enter them. --Salvadors 15:47, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- See ho#Italian for the same term in Italian. SemperBlotto 15:52, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure it's the same. Estonian doesn't have a verb for 'to have'. Instead it uses the adessive form of the personal pronoun with the relevant form of 'to be'. So "I have" is really "On-me is ..." --Salvadors 16:00, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- Well, do the best you can. Without a part of speech and headword, somebody will probably delete it. SemperBlotto 16:03, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- I've had a go at it for you. It is now of an acceptable standard. I haven't looked to see if we have Estonian entries at (deprecated template usage) mul and (deprecated template usage) on. SemperBlotto 16:10, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks — I didn't realise you could do that with headwords. --Salvadors 16:14, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
When you're making a new entry, you don't have to use {{et-noun (old)}}
, you can just leave the genitive and partitive forms off with {{et-noun}}
. — [Ric Laurent] — 17:30, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Aha. Good to know, thanks. I assumed that if the 'old' form existed, there must be a difference between them :) On a related note, are you going to do anything more with
{{et-verb}}
? It would be useful to be able to add at least the -n form (and if we had the -tud too we could usually then create the entire conjugation table, but that's probably for another time!) --Salvadors 17:35, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- I started working on a conjugation template and got distracted so it's sitting in a state of incompletion lol. You can see what I've got so far here, though I'm sure there's stuff missing. — [Ric Laurent] — 17:48, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Looks very nice — what needs to happen to make it go live? --Salvadors 17:54, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- When I was learning about Estonian, I found some decent rules for nouns' and adjectives' forms, but I never could find anything solid about verbs, so I could never write specific coding for conjugation. — [Ric Laurent] — 18:04, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Separation
[edit]- Also, remember to add ---- to separate the Estonian section from the other languages, like this. Thanks! :) - -sche (discuss) 17:51, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Oops, thank for the reminder! --Salvadors 17:54, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
