Personal guidelines

[edit]
  • Quotes used and words created do not imply endorsement of any ideology.
  • My primary language is English.
    • I may occasionally add etymologies or create pages for non-English terms, but these are either documented or self-evident.

How to find quotes

[edit]
  1. Find a word that needs quotes.
  2. Search the word in quotation marks on Google.
  3. If the word is in major dictionaries, but you need a use, search the word with the site: parameter to specify a site to look through. I recommend NYT (nytimes.com) as it has been around for a long time and contains many different words. The Guardian (theguardian.com) can be used to find quotes for British spellings.
  4. Use a quote template like this
    • 2000 July 1, <author>, “<title>”, in <website>[<url>]:
      <passage>
    • For this template, dates are in the DD-MM-YYYY format.

Good sites for quotes

[edit]
  • New York Times (nytimes.com)
    • For American spellings
  • The Guardian (theguardian.com)
    • For British spellings
  • Dexerto (dexerto.com)
    • For video game-related terms.
    • Other gaming websites also work.
  • Scientific American (scientificamerican.com)
    • For scientific terms as well as animal species.
  • Google Books (books.google.com)
  • Works in the public domain.
    • Copyright law varies by country, make sure the material is public domain in your home country.
    • While quotes from copyrighted material can be used via fair use, it's best not to include more text than is necessary.
