Talk:battue
Add topicThe British English version of Battue is a 'Driven Game Shoot'. Here, the game is driven towards a line of guns (i.e. the clients of the shoot, each armed with one or more shotguns) by a horseshoe formation of 'Brushers' or 'Beaters'. who beat the ground-cover with sticks and make noise (e.g. by shouting, clapping or knocking their sticks together). The brushers may also wave flags above their heads to encourage game birds not to fly 'backwards' (i.e. over the brushers' heads and away from the guns). Should this definition be included as the British English translation of battue - or is it better to put this entry elsewhere?
