From Spanish Sulu/Sulú, from Tausug Sulug (Sulu), an older form of Sūg (Sulu), possibly from Tausug sulug, an older form of sūg (current).[1][2] Compare Maranao Solog, Malay Suluk, Hokkien 蘇祿苏禄 (So͘-lo̍k).
