Proto-Slavic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Balto-Slavic [Term?], from Proto-Indo-European *ō, ultimately a natural expression. Compare Ancient Greek ὦ (ô), Latin ō, Old Irish a, Gothic 𐍉 (ō), Old Armenian ով (ov), Albanian o. Although the Proto-Indo-European form is reconstructed, this interjection could arise at any stage.
As Trubachyov, there is no linkage to other Indo-European interjections.
