[edit]From Persian پرچم (parčam, “banner”). Nişanyan suggests that Persian word is a compound of بال (pal) and چمیدن (čamidan), while Gerhard Doerfer argues that the Persian word is an Oghuz borrowing.[1] See also the Persian entry.
