Etymology

From Old French baptisier, borrowed from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin baptīzāre, present active infinitive of baptīzō, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek (deprecated template usage) βαπτίζω (baptízō) "I immerse, baptize".. Replaced the inherited Old French (deprecated template usage) batoyer.
