From Middle Breton ascorn, ascourn, from Proto-Celtic *astkornu (compare Cornish askorn, Welsh asgwrn), compound of *ast- (bone) and *kornu (horn) (compare Breton kern (horns), Old Irish corn), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱr̥h₂nom (compare Latin cornū, English horn), from *ḱerh₂- (head, horn).
