Abstract

The HP Software University Association is a global network of universities and research institutes. With the name change in 2006 from HP-OpenView University Association (HP-OVUA) to HP-Software University Association (HP-SUA) the association had moved its scope and direction beyond traditional IT management. The 2007 workshop covers major business areas and their solution lifecycles including communications, operations, support and maintenance services: Management solutions and services: IT organizations will be enabled to run IT as a service delivery business and flip the ratio of IT spend between maintenance and innovation. When competitive pressures are increasing and the rate of change is always accelerating, organizations need to be able to adapt to these continuous changes. In the same time, organizations are driven to a more efficient use of their resources, and to strict compliance to both internal and external policies and regulations. It becomes increasingly important for IT to be synchronized with and responsive to requirements and priorities of the business while enabling business innovation and competitive advantage. Communication solutions for service providers: Service Providers can simplify their infrastructure while improving their operational efficiency. The competitive position of providers will more and more be determined by the speed of rollout and characterized by the innovative feature set of collaborative multimedia communication. This includes services for media sharing and exchange, history and context (including presence and availability), and an emphasis on spontaneity and ease of use. The full solution lifecycle This includes design, testing, deployment, operation, maintenance, sourcing and retirement of the software solution. Services in this area help accelerate, increase and sustain the business value customers get out of their software solution thus maximizing the total cost of ownership. Enabling technologies and best practices allow an effective delivery of these services. In detail, this leads to a workshop program with sections focused on Adaptive Infrastructure Security Management Business Technology Optimization Service Provider Technologies Solution Lifecycle Support The proceedings provide to the reader an up-to-date insight into ongoing research of the leading institutes and universities around the globe. This gives a clear perspective for technology leaders and advanced innovation planning executives who need to understand the next wave of innovation and technology impacting the use and application of information technology in their organizations. HP-Softwar University Association is sponsored by Hewlett-Packard Company, in particular by HP Labs, HP Software and HP University Relations.
