Performance analysis of non-orthogonal multiple access in 5G mm-wave wireless networks

Published: 01 January 2021 Publication History

Abstract

Wireless systems in the fifth generation (5G) are expected to satisfy high capacity and latency demands. Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) is a significant emerging paradigm for 5G to fulfil diverse needs for low latency, enhanced fairness, improved spectral efficiency and user access. The vast spectrum accessible at millimetre wave (mm-Wave) frequencies, along with more efficient use of existing resources, contributes to increased overall capacity of systems. This paper will provide an opportunity for the implementation of the power domain NOMA (PD-NOMA) technique in the 5G cellular networks. We propose an unordered and ordered NOMA design in mm-Wave communication in this work considering both Downlink (DL) and Uplink (UL) transmission scenarios. The outage probability and capacity analysis is carried out for different channel gain and power allocation coefficients. Simulation results show that the proposed mathematical model facilitates the 5G network, and NOMA with optimum power allocation can effectively improve system capacity.
