XREmul: An Emulation Environment for XR Application Development

Published: 22 February 2019 Publication History

Abstract

EXtended Reality(XR), which includes the concepts of virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality, is a promising technology for the research community and also the commercial domain in the sense that it can open a variety of new applications in a novel computing environment. Most XR applications are "interactive" and this interactivity is realized using immersive equipments such as XR headsets and controllers. Compared to applications in traditional computing environments, an XR application requires more sophisticated and careful design given that diverse dimensions of interaction is allowed and also because users can be more sensitive to the application/functional quality due to the higher levels of immersion.
