A new R-D estimation method for compressed domain MP3/AAC bit-rate reduction

Published: 09 January 2014 Publication History

Abstract

Reducing MP3/AAC bit rate in compressed domain is computationally more efficient than direct transcoding. To compute rate distortion (R-D) table of an audio signal in compressed domain, we propose a new method for estimating the distortion vs. scale factor (D-SF) table, which is a precursor to the R-D table. Using the D-SF table, an R-D table can be easily derived. It is shown that the proposed method estimates the D-SF table more accurately than the prior art. Experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve gain up to 2.4dB.
