Tracking in WiMAX Networks Using Cell-IDs

Published: 09 July 2009 Publication History

Abstract

There is some skepticism regarding the practicalimplementation of a tracking system that depends on cellidentification (Cell-ID) information. This pessimism is due to thefact that tracking systems are known to require high positioningaccuracy, while Cell-ID positioning is known as being “lowaccuracy” positing technique. However, using the Cell-IDs in adifferent way (a novel approach) than in current positioningwill allow the implementation of a tracking system capableof providing sufficient positioning accuracy for many locationdependentapplications.
