Talkin’ Closet Plus: Interactive Clothing Selection Support System Through Various Opinions of Speech from Clothes

Published: 29 June 2024 Publication History

Abstract

Given the strong interest in fashion and the challenges associated with selecting the appropriate clothing, many recommendation systems for daily clothing selection have been proposed. However, most of these systems are software-based solutions suggesting clothing options on devices and do not support the process of examining actual clothes. In our research, we considered novel designs to enhance users’ interest in their clothing selection by recommendation messages emanating directly from the clothing items. In this paper, we propose “Talkin’ Closet Plus,” a clothing selection support system that provides information to users through “speech” from multiple clothes, themselves. In the proposed system, when clothing on a hanger is picked up, the picked-up item recommends that the user wear it. In addition, other clothes join the interaction and provide different perspectives to support the user’s choice of clothes. We investigated the effect of combining self-recommendations and critical suggestions from clothes on user satisfaction and selection behavior in the clothing selection. Our experimental results suggest that the proposed scheme, which provides different opinions from multiple clothes, may enhance the user’s interest regarding the information on clothes provided by the system and affect the user’s decision.
