Daily Life of Elderly: An Approach to the Use of Gerontechnology

Published: 04 May 2023 Publication History

Abstract

This paper presents the first results obtained from a quantitative study, carried out during the year 2021, in which, through a designed questionnaire, data were obtained from 497 Spanish older adults. The results presented in this research allow us to configure one of the main phases by focusing in detail on the profile of the use of gerontechnological resources of Spanish older adults, paying special attention to the influence of factors such as age. The results obtained so far have allowed us to confirm that, although most of the participants in our study consider that gerontechnology makes them more comfortable and useful in their daily lives and that they use it to communicate, search for information and for learning, there seems to be a lot of misinformation about certain technological resources, especially in the highest age groups. In this way, the results of the study presented have allowed us to identify and deepen those aspects that currently concern the scientific community about the uses and reasons that the elderly have for using gerontechnological resources and that allow us to be closer to developing digital inclusion strategies even in the Framework of Digital Competences in Europe.
