An Empirical Analysis of The Growth of Mariculture: A Case Study of Liaoning Province, China

Published: 15 December 2023 Publication History

Abstract

Mariculture is an important part of aquaculture in coastal areas, which is of great significance to the development of fishery economy in coastal areas. In this paper, a C-D production function model of mariculture in Liaoning province was constructed using data from 2013 to 2020. It was found that the goodness of fit of the regression results was not ideal, and there were some problems such as negative regression coefficient of labor input and insignificant regression coefficient. By observing the change of capital-labor ratio, it is found that the sample data of this stage show that the mariculture industry of Liaoning Province is in a transition period. Therefore, it is difficult to explain the relationship between the input and output of production factors by constructing a C-D production function model. As mariculture acreage continues to decline and the number of traditional fishermen continues to decline, a doubling of capital investment could boost the increase in mariculture output per acreage and attract the inflow of fishery workers. Mariculture has shifted from labor-intensive to capital-intensive production.
