Development of a Clock Distribution Module Using Low Cost Components for Ground Stations Operating LEO Algerian Satellites

Published: 30 May 2024 Publication History

Abstract

For the proper functioning of satellite ground stations, the synchronization of clocks between equipment is among essential tasks to be performed. This synchronization is done by an equipment which is capable of synchronizing the devices from a precise time reference such as the constellation of the Global Positioning System (GPS). The purpose of this paper is to present synchronization results using a DIY module based on low-cost components. The developed module is used to adapt the date format generated by the existing equipment to the format required by the target station (ALSAT-2 station), as well as to generate several 1PPS and 10 MHz outputs from an input for each. Functional tests have shown that the developed module can perform these tasks reliably.
