An OpenDDS cross-platform data exchange module for cloud-edge-based industrial internet of things

Published: 20 October 2022 Publication History

Abstract

Driven1 by the Industrial Internet of Things, more and more automation equipment and machines have networking functions to make real-time monitoring of factories and the collaboration of machines become important. Generally, the data of each device needs to be able to exchange with each other and consider the distributed transmission mode that can achieve one-to-one, one-to-many, or many-to-many modes. However, automation equipment and machines produced by different manufacturers have their own transmission methods. This paper presents an Exchange Data Transport Module (EDTM) transmission conversion module to allow automated machines to have a Data Distribution Service (DDS) distributed transmission method, reducing the need to redevelop different machines to change their transmission communication protocols. To solve the problem that it was difficult to achieve the use of unified DDS to communicate and exchange data between various machines. In addition, developers can further choose the different transmission settings and various QoS provided by DDS to choose the most on the Internet of Things environment. Suitable transmission method.
