Magneto-Optic Effects and Enhancement Methods

Published: 04 January 2021 Publication History

Abstract

The magneto-optic (MO) effects, including Faraday Effect and magneto-optic Kerr Effect (MOKE), are widely used in many applications, such as imaging of magnetic domains, MOKE magnetometer, optical isolator and circulator. However, since the MO quality factor Q, which determines the strength of MO effect, is quite small for bare magnetic materials, great efforts have been devoted to improve the MO effects. In this work, we briefly summarize several methods that have been proposed by researchers to improve the MO performance, and also come up with our own designs, based on their methods, to enhance the MO effects.
