Software estimation patterns applied at a small enterprise

Published: 23 September 2010 Publication History

Abstract

In order to produce competitive software, one must focus on quality. To do this, quantitative data that describe the reality of the product and the process must be duly obtained and analyzed. The software estimation process is inserted as a first step in obtaining quantitative data. Most of the Micro and Small Software Organizations (MPES) do not apply an estimation due mainly to limited resources and immaturity on their development processes. The use of specific patterns of estimates for MPES helps to control their processes and products and thus enables the production of software in a controlled manner, with higher quality and making them more competitive. In this context, this work presents an experimental application of a pattern of estimates in MPES and shows the benefits generated from its use.
