A Study on Linear Elastic FEM by Cloud Computing

Published: 01 December 2013 Publication History

Abstract

This paper proposes a parallel algorithm of assembling global stiffness matrix of linear elastic finite element method (FEM) and solving linear equations using conjugate gradient (CG) method based on the MapReduce architectural pattern, then implements it on a 6-nodes Hadoop laboratory test cloud computing cluster. For the spatial truss systems, the numerical results show that it is simple and easy to use the proposed parallel algorithm to implement the FEM calculation on the cloud computing platform. This paper has achieved a speedup ratio of 3 in assembling global stiffness matrix, and it will increase with increasing the scale of the model and the number of cluster's nodes, but the performance in solving linear equations is limited, which should be improved in the future.
