A lost and found box of human sensation
Article No.: 32, Pages 1 - 2
Abstract
A young man's father dies of cancer and the boy has to cope with the loss. The film begins with the funeral and shows how feelings change throughout the years. It ends with the question: Is there a due date for grief...? There are two parts in the movie: A poem builds the framework for the storyline, spoken by Ian McKellen (The Lord of the Rings). Additionally, from time to time this structure is interrupted by thoughts and experiences of the boy, voice acted by Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love). The prevailing mood of the movie is not grief and melancholy but an odd unstableness, sad and quiet passages take turns with anger, but also humor and self irony. The narration is neither euphemized in terms of political correctness, nor dramatized to fit a classical story arc. The images on the other hand do not necessarily display reality. They represent a point of view, not showing how things are, but how they feel. All in all "A Lost and Found Box of Human Sensation" is a film about the time consuming process of overcoming grief, with all its ups, downs, setbacks and silver linings.
