Organization of the basic agent

Published: 01 July 1991 Publication History

Abstract

The Basic Agent is an attempt to create a conscious, mindlike AI artifact embedded in time and functioning in a simulated dynamic environment. The agent integrates temporal planning, temporal reasoning, reactive replanning, action execution, limited natural language understanding and generation, symbolic perception, episodic memory and reflection, and some general knowledge associated with the vocabulary items. A state-change style semantics for action verbs, based on a set of primitive relations, allows convenient integration of the natural language and planning components. The architectural elements of the system and their interaction are described.
