Abstract

Creating a high quality search algorithm is more of an art than a science. It is a balancing act, and as any tightrope walker will tell you, it takes years to master. But when the art of ranking a query against a set of documents is virtually mastered, one has the foundation upon which to build a system that can do more than just search; it can turn information into knowledge. By effectively finding, categorizing, summarizing, and proactively routing information, it is possible to take total control of the ever‐growing mountain of unstructured data in the digital world.
