Zebu cow

Brahman or Brahma is a breed of Zebu cattle (Bos primigenius indicus) that was first bred in America from cattle breeds imported from India. Brahma cattle were produced by cross-breeding Kankrej, Gujarat, Ongole, and the Gir (or Gyr) strains. The Brahman is one of the most popular breeds of cattle intended for meat processing and is widely used in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, United States, Colombia and Australia among many other places.

Miniature zebus are noticeable by the hump behind their head and are thought to be the oldest cattle breed in the world, originating in India. These small cattle are friendly and make good companions on smaller farms. Their milk is also very high in butterfat content. Brahman cattle are a breed branching from the Zebu. Any breed of cow can be miniature.

Zebu are a species of cattle closely related to the very common European cattle that are found in most parts of the world. Zebus (sometimes called Brahman cattle in the U.S.) are easily spotted due to the large hump on their front shoulder and their large, upward-facing horns. The Zebu is part of the Bos genus, which contains many species of domestic cattle.
