History of typography

In the past I spent most of my AS levels learning about the origins of Fashion, art pieces and other Art related areas. So, I have found these seminars to be quite interesting. From cave paintings to pictographs, language and the median used to communicate it has evolved tremendously over time. Typography has evolved from systems of alphabets that helps to make sense of the world.

As part of my Color and Typography class, we were required to make a "History of Typography" timeline / infographic with at least eight key events from the development of typography.

A reinterpretation of a traditional timeline. I challenged myself by using only typography and a non-linear organization. Emphasis was given to the typeface design itself, rather than its historical information.

Before there was Typekit, before there was Fonts.com, DaFont or Google Fonts, designers had to share their typefaces the old-fashioned way—via print advertisements. In Print magazine’s 75 years of publishing, we’ve seen some great adverts, some funny, some dry and some, well, strange. We dug deep into the archives to find our favorite type-vertisements.
