How to Make a DIY Snowman Wreath from a Pool Noodle
Winter is a fun time to decorate the house, the porch and everywhere in between with awesome Christmas decorations and winter-themed decorations like snowmen and sleds.
This cute DIY Snowman Pool Noodle Wreath will add a touch of whimsy to your front door or make a really cute decoration inside.
Wreaths can be hung on the INSIDE of the door as well as the outside, and for this cute white snowman wreath, you might want to keep it white by keeping it safe and warm inside.
If your porch is covered and your white snowman wreath would be out of the elements, by all means, hang it on the front door for everyone to see!

To make your own DIY Snowman Wreath, begin by making 2 pool noodle forms, one a little bit smaller than the other.

Why Use a Pool Noodle?
Using a pool noodle to make a snowman wreath just makes sense.
Repurposing items like a pool noodle is cost-effective. You may already have a pool noodle available that you could use.
The only thing I purchased for my Snowman wreath was the yarn.
The hat, ear muffs, ribbon, and scarf were from days gone by and were no longer being used.
So, we recycled! Another benefit of using things you already have on hand.
It’s easy to put together a Snowman wreath using a pool noodle, too!
In this quick tutorial, I’ll show you how to make a DIY Snowman Wreath.

How to Make a Snowman Wreath
You’ll need to gather together a few things to make this wreath.
You’ll need a pool noodle, of course. I used a white one, because, well, this is a snowman and snow is white.
Since you’re repurposing pool noodles, you may also want to repurpose an old hat and scarf that you’re no longer wearing or items the kids have outgrown.
Use older items in new ways to give them a new life.
You’ll need a few more things to make this winter snowman wreath and I’ve listed them below.
Here are the things you’ll need

Scissors
Knife
Hot glue gun & glue
2 skeins of thick white yarn. (See Tips Below re: Yarn)
Hat & Scarf
Earmuffs
Ribbon
Instructions
Create 2 pool noodle wreath forms, one using a 52 inch noodle and the other using a 32 inch noodle. Sizes are approximate and can vary like a real snowman.
If you haven’t made a wreath form before, you can use our tutorial.
Wrap the largest noodle with the yarn, leaving about 6-10 inches of yarn dangling. You will use this to tie it to the smaller noodle later.
We used one of the skeins of yarn for the largest section of the snowman.
Wrap the yarn loosely, making it look a bit “less than perfect” like a real life snowman.
Looser yarn will make him appear fluffier and more like he’s really made from snow.
Scrunch the loops close together so you can’t see the pool noodle in between.
Next, wrap the smaller section of pool noodle the same way.
Leave a section 6- 10 inches long at the top for making a loop/hanger.
Next, use your glue gun to tack a few places around the noodles to hold the yarn in place. It doesn’t take much, so go easy on the glue.
Now take the “extra” from the bigger section and tie it onto the small section making sure the hanging pieces from the small section are at the top.
The picture below is what I’m talking about, but it ended up being easier to wrap the second noodle wreath first, THEN attach them together.
So, I’d recommend wrapping both sections, then attaching them to each other.
Tuck the extra yarn into the back side of the snowman and the base is done.
In order to keep the head from flopping, we inserted two bamboo skewers at an angle into the pool noodles.
The first skewer went in at this angle, then the other going the opposite way.
They were then cut off flush with the noodle and covered with the yarn.
You’re ready to add the embellishments – a hat, scarf, earmuffs and any other decorative touches you feel inclined to add.
Glue on the ear muffs. We disassembled the set we were using and connected them with a black ribbon instead of the plastic headband that was holding them.
We needed more length and this made them easier to attach.
Attach the ribbon with glue. Bringing it a little forward instead of directly on the top/middle. This will make it easier to see from a normal human viewpoint when your snowman wreath is hanging on the wall or door.
The scarf is simply tied around the neck and adjusted to cover the area where the head and neck come together, just in case there is anything looking off or weird there.
The hat was added last. For this hat, we wanted a little puff and we wanted it to stand up instead of dropping flat.
To get this effect, stuff the hat will a little polyfill and use a bamboo skewer or other stiff piece of material inserted inside to hold it up.
The skewer worked perfectly because it had a sharp end that we poked into the pool noodle and the other end was flat against the hat.
Then glue the edges of the hat so it will stay in place.
How cute is that?
Tips
The yarn for this project came from Hobby Lobby. Here is a similar one on Amazon. We used 1.5 packages that were 28 yards long each, so a total of around 42 yards of yarn. The one here from Amazon says it has the same weight yarn and the same amount.
This cool loop yarn would also work and look awesome, but might cost a little more.
And there is less on a roll, so you’d need more of it. But, it’d be super cute, don’t you think?
