[edit]Greetings.
Turkey and Northern Cyprus have abolished daylight saving and are permanently fixed on en:UTC+3 (en:Further-eastern European Time). (Also Crimea has not been updated in some of these files which is also permanently fixed on UTC+3.) See the news and sources. Can you change these files accordingly?

Update for the File:Standard time zones of the world.svg
[edit]Hello.
Could you update the File:Standard time zones of the world.svg by taking the changes in Crimea, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, North Korea, Turkey and Northern Cyprus into account, by copying the latest updates from the File:Standard World Time Zones.png? I requested this because I don't know how to create and upload SVG files myself.
Thank you.

Update hungary on individual taxation system png
[edit]According to this: http://www.nestmann.com/hungary-now-imposes-tax-on-non-resident-citizens/ hungary now uses a citizenship based model. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2A01:36D:2800:2D1A:3CA6:AB13:182D:8A69 (talk) 22:33, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
- This article is from 2012, and I had already added it as a reference in international taxation. As the references explain, Hungary adopts citizenship-based taxation in principle but grants two very broad exceptions: it doesn't tax foreign income of its nonresident citizens who also have another nationality or who reside in a country that has a tax treaty with Hungary. The overwhelming majority of nonresident Hungarians satisfy one of these exceptions. There are also other countries that tax based on citizenship in limited situations, as listed in international taxation, but these situations are so rare that it would be misleading to mark them in pink on the map, as opposed to the countries that really impose citizenship-based taxation without exceptions. Heitordp (talk) 03:35, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, I read it more carefully and it seems you are right.(also sorry for the late response)84.225.193.23 21:44, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
Nice map
[edit]Hey just wanted to say I like the improvements you made to File:Blank USA, w territories.svg... I think it's a lot better with the territories moved closer to their true locations. A few other changes you made improved the map as well so I'm glad that you did that. One thing I wanted to mention is that whatever you were trying to say in the comment for Puerto Rico got cut off, but it doesn't affect how the map is displayed so I don't know if it's worth bothering to correct. Also, I went ahead and uploaded a stripped-down version (no territories) to File:Blank US Map (states only).svg since your map fixes a few of that map's flaws. Anyways... keep up the good work!--Jamesy0627144 (talk) 01:42, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- I'm glad you like it! Thanks for finding the mistake in the comment for Puerto Rico, it should have been just the first sentence as all its islands are shown. I corrected it. Thanks for updating the other map too. There, it may be a good idea to shift Alaska a little more to the left. Heitordp (talk) 03:45, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
- Are you referring to moving Alaska slightly to the left as you did on File:Blank USA, w territories.svg, or moving it even more to the left to cut off some of the archipelago islands? On the old version of File:Blank US Map (states only).svg Alaska was definitely more to the left, but the reason for that may be that the map didn't have enough resolution to show all the islands. I was just going to move Alaska slightly to incorporate the latest change you made to File:Blank USA, w territories.svg.--Jamesy0627144 (talk) 01:37, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- I meant slightly to the left, but a little more than in the map with territories. My thought is that since the Rat Islands and Near Islands are not drawn, there shouldn't be any blank space on the map corresponding to their location. In the map with territories, these islands are "covered" by the rectangle containing American Samoa. In the map with states only, there is more blank space, so the rest of Alaska should be pushed to the left as much as possible to make these non-drawn islands "outside" the map, but without cutting off the drawn Andreanof Islands. But this is a very minor detail and not really necessary, it's up to you. If you want to do it, use numbers 16.1 190 705 inside the rotate function for Alaska. Heitordp (talk) 02:59, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- Got it, thanks for clarifying. For the sake of simplicity though I went ahead and uploaded a new version of File:Blank US Map (states only).svg with the most recent change that you made to File:Blank USA, w territories.svg incorporated. Not only was this easier but I also find it slightly appealing to have stuff on the territory map and non-territory map in the exact same position. Really doesn't matter to me though; if you feel the need to adjust Alaska in the future please go ahead. Thanks again for your expertise work on the map.--Jamesy0627144 (talk) 21:45, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- Heitordp, I didn't realize before that you gave me the new numbers in your post; I must've assumed those were the numbers that needed to be changed. Anyways, I went ahead and uploaded the states-only map as a new file (similar to how Kaldari did for the territories map) and used the new numbers for Alaska. It's at File:Blank US Map (states only) 2.svg.--Jamesy0627144 (talk) 21:25, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Source of "World map configurable.svg"?
[edit]Did you make this map based on the CIA map directly, as you claimed in the "Source" field, or based on File:BlankMap-World.svg? I suggest you fix the "Source" field if the latter is the case here. Cherkash (talk) 03:30, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- I made it from the CIA map directly. File:BlankMap-World.svg was originally made from the map of 2005 and uses curves. I used the map of 2015 to incorporate some recent changes, and straight segments to reduce the file size. Heitordp (talk) 09:43, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

- Hey, thanks. There is now also the first Vermont poll of 2020 out. Please update again, I'm too stupid to do it ;-) Vermont Public Radio poll: Biden+24% http://projects.vpr.org/vpr-vermont-pbs-2020-polls-september --The Pollster (talk) 11:25, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
- Done. Heitordp (talk) 12:46, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hey, thx. Louisiana (LA) is not really within the margin of error in the poll table, but you show it purple on your map. Please change. I would also advise you to use a 1-month timeframe for polls on your map and then drop them and go back to 2016 election results. For example, there's a really old poll from AR from the beginning of the year, a clear outlier with Biden+2, when the 2016 result was almost Trump+30 in the state. No election expert or model has AR close. Therefore, please only use polls that are not older than 1 month and otherwise use the 2016 result in a state. THANKS. --The Pollster (talk) 05:24, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- I used the most recent poll for each state listed in the article. The most recent poll for Louisiana shows Trump 48%, Biden 42%, margin ±4%, so they overlap. The most recent poll for Arkansas is from June 2020 and shows Trump+2%.
- I agree with your idea, but instead of a limit of 1 month, which would be a moving date and thus require daily updates, I was thinking of following the same approach as the map in the previous election, considering only polls since the fixed date of September 1. States with older polls would be in a dark color based on the previous election, as you suggest. What do you think? Also, I encourage you to try updating the map yourself, it's really not difficult as the states are all listed in the beginning of the file with one line per color. Heitordp (talk) 06:35, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hey, yes, Sept. 1 is ok. Could you then insert a mention on your map that polls older than that are not used ? PS: I don’t get the margin of error thing: If the 4% margin of error applies to both candidates in each direction, not just the margin between them in Louisiana, then other states like Michigan must also be purple on the map ! There are close polls there too (5% margin). Please also check other states as well. Thanks. --The Pollster (talk) 12:11, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- The margin is supposed to apply in both directions. I marked Michigan blue because I used the most recent poll at that time, which was outside the margin, but since then other polls have been added. It seems that using only the most recent poll requires many frequent changes, so I'll propose some different criteria for a more stable map. Let's continue this discussion on the article's talk page to hear from more people. Heitordp (talk) 02:27, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, could you please update the map again ? There have been numerous new polls and many states are now within the margin of error, such as NV, MN, MO, WI, PA etc. - Question: how do you apply the criteria for colouring a state ? You said you use 2x the margin of error, so for example 2x 4.0 = 8%. If only one poll since September 1 is for example below that, is the state automatically grey ? Or do you use an average of all polls since September 1 ? I think using an average of ALL polls since September 1 would be better because it smooths out outliers. What do you think ? Also: I liked the darker shades of the colours that were used before much better. --The Pollster (talk) 08:29, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

World Map
[edit]Hi there! I'm Canuckguy (I don't have a Commons account, just a Wikipedia one, and even then I rarely use it anymore), and I was taking a look at the World Map file that I helped create many years ago and I see that you've made some incredible changes (as well as catching some mistakes I didn't notice, like Uelen for example). I just want to say that I'm really pleased with the changes, I probably would have done something like them myself if I was better at svg - I'd even go so far as to say that you've done as much important work to the map than I did with the initial svg grouping, if not more so! I'm glad seeing someone who Wikipedias more than I do and is better with svg than I am to have a passion for this as well. Keep up the excellent work! --2604:3D09:AD7E:8B30:2C48:203B:D071:5840 05:32, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

European Single Market integration : Northern Ireland
[edit]Thank you for updating this map but I'm afraid it needs another small update: Northern Ireland has "access with exceptions" like EFTA but not as generous. It wouldn't be terrible to use the same colour and just extend the caption, but if you insist you could use a paler blue. (Whatever you do, don't use orange or green!). Thank you. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 10:45, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
- @John Maynard Friedman: Thanks for your message. I tried a pale blue color but it was difficult to see in the white background, so I used pink. Is that a good color? I also added a new line to the legend where the file is used. Heitordp (talk) 01:38, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. Unfortunately the colour is just a bit too close to the one used for Ukraine. Can you distinguish them more?
- I should mention that there is still a continuing debate at en.wiki on how best (or even whether) the status of NI should be shown, since the politicians have made it deliberately vague. Glentamara is working on the same problem and the last thing we want is to offer editors a choice of map according to their political perspective. I'm beginning to appreciate why this aspect of the withdrawal agreement was so difficult to negotiate! Maybe Glentamara may want to comment? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 09:02, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi! I think the pink color looks good. Other colors might work as well, but it should be clearly distinguishable from the color for the EFTA/EEA states. The situation for NI is very different from the EEA states Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein since the latters are really integrated in the single market (with some exceptions, like for agricultural goods), which is not the case for NI. Thanks! --Glentamara (talk) 09:18, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- On the other hand, NI has a much closer relationship than Turkey or Ukraine, since it has access for agricultural as well as other goods. For more detail, see enwikipedia:European Single Market#But we have to reflect it somehow, but it is volatile situation - we have yet to see in writing the result of the negotiations just a couple of weeks ago on implementing the WA. (sorry, I don't know how to do an interwiki to en wiki, only from it!) FYI only, I'm not asking that you do anything. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 17:14, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- @John Maynard Friedman: You can do an interwiki like this: {{w|article}} or [[:en:article]]
- I tried light green, between the light blue and green already in the map, but it was difficult to see the difference. Heitordp (talk) 18:21, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Green would have gotten us back into the football colours problem again. Strangely, when displayed full size there is no problem to distinguish between the colours so it must be some kind of optical effect? Maybe you could increase the red element a bit more?
- TYVM re the interwiki, noted. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 18:33, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Abortion map Update (India)
[edit]Hey! Thank you so much for the work you have done when it comes to creating the maps. :)
I was just wondering if you could update India to abortion on request since the new Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act 2020 was passed? Herein are some attached links for your reference: https://www.mondaq.com/india/healthcare/937694/the-medical-termination-of-pregnancy-amendment-bill-2020, http://164.100.47.4/BillsTexts/LSBillTexts/Asintroduced/55_2020_LS_Eng.pdf. -addie293 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Addie293 (talk • contribs) 19:00, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Addie293: The Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act 2020 did not legalize abortion on request.[2] It only increased the gestational period during which abortion is allowed depending on the circumstances, and expanded abortion for failure of contraception also for unmarried women. But the law still requires a doctor's opinion that the abortion is done to prevent harm to physical or mental health of the woman or fetal abnormality. The interpretation of mental health is very broad and includes circumstances such as failure of contraception or rape, but for example abortion based on the sex of the fetus is not allowed. So India should remain shown in the same category as the UK, which allows abortion for broad reasons but not merely on request. Heitordp (talk) 04:30, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
I agree with you so some extend but in that case, a lot of other countries can be categorised in the same way such as France (where I am from) as it requires the opinion of one doctor up to 12 weeks while it requires the opinion of two doctors thereafter. I honestly don't see that much of a difference between abortion laws in India and several European countries to be honest. And fetal sex determination by itself is banned in India because of an imbalanced sex ratio.
- Up to 12 weeks, French law doesn't require the opinion of a doctor, it says that the woman has the right to request an abortion for any reason.[3] Only after 12 weeks it's necessary for the doctors to make an opinion that the pregnancy poses a risk to her health or fetal impairment. I also prefer to follow the UN classification, which is used as the main source for the tables in the abortion law article and the map. The UN classifies India and the UK under social/economic reasons but not on request. But I agree that in practice the situation is almost the same in these countries, so maybe we should merge the categories social/economic (green) and on request (blue). You can make this proposal in the talk page of the abortion law article. Heitordp (talk) 02:11, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

Don't you (have to) add the program used to make the map?
[edit]I'm on https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Visa_policy_of_the_Schengen_Area.svg and wanted to learn how to make such a world map showing a selection of maps. I kind of expected it would be some open source map engine already incorporated in the wikipedia, with a selection of types of frequently used types maps in the wikipedia. Thy, lots of great coop experiences for 2022 :) - greetings from Brussels :) --SvenAERTS (talk) 13:01, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
- @SvenAERTS: I took this map in PDF, converted it to SVG, and opened the SVG file in Inkscape. Then for each country, I took the sequence of numbers representing the shape in Inkscape, reduced them to two decimals using a spreadsheet, and copied it back to Inkscape. After that, I adjusted the borders of all countries to match each other exactly. Then I started a blank SVG file in a text editor, manually typed a code to start the shape of each country, and copied the sequence of numbers from the other SVG file in Inkscape for the respective country. I also repeated the borders to allow coloring them separately, added circles for small jurisdictions, and added options to configure how various disputed areas and circles are shown. The result was this file, which I've been using as a template to create other maps. I also added instructions in the file for other people to use it.
- It took a long time to create the template, but after it was finished it was pretty easy to create other maps from it. I just selected the options to configure the disputed areas and circles, added a few lines to color certain countries, and saved it as a new file. Heitordp (talk) 08:34, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

- @Squazyzilla: Instead of updating the file, I'll explain how you can do it yourself. First, download the file to your computer and open it with a text editor like Notepad. In the top section of the file there are two lines with codes representing the states:
- #WA, #OR, #CA, #NV, #CO, #MT, #MN, #HI, #IL, #MI, #VT, #NY, #MA, #RI, #CT, #NJ, #MD, #DC, #PA, #IA, #NH, #WI, #ME {fill:#0000FF;}
- #AK, #WY, #NE, #MO, #OH, #TN, #GA, #WV, #TX, #AZ {fill:#FF0016;}
- The first line is for blue states, and the second line is for red states. Gray states are not listed in either line. For example, to change Alaska from red to blue, remove the code #AK, from the second line and add it to the first line; to change Delaware from gray to blue, add the code #DE, to the first line; to change Florida from gray to red, add the code #FL, to the second line; etc. Then save the file, go to the Commons page of the file, click on "Upload a new version of this file", and upload the file. File:World DST.svg
[edit]Please could you update File:World DST.svg so that Iran is grey? Thanks! DelUsion23 (talk) 18:31, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Delusion23: Done. Heitordp (talk) 20:05, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
Hello, I found the two time zone maps and Commons says, they would be under public domain. But because I consider to use these maps for own maps, I´m curious, what your sources are, because I can´t find another public domain map that shows the different daylight daving time rules in Mexico or the areas of Canada they have daylight saving time. And the map that is mentioned as a source (File:BlankMap-Equirectangular.svg) hasn´t that information (or I can´t see them). But the file´s description says, that one source would be data that is derived from "Google Fusion Table". Thanks! --Journalismusmädchen (talk) 03:40, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Journalismusmädchen: BlankMap-Equirectangular.svg is only the source for the shapes of countries. The daylight saving time rules are obtained from a variety of sources. Comprehensive sources compiling the rules for every location are Time and Date and IANA Time Zone Database. In Mexico, all rules are specified by a single decree. In Canada the rules are specified by each location, but a compilation is available from the National Research Council and from an old but still mostly valid article on Canadian Geographic. Details are also available from governments of subdivisions such as Quebec. This map also has a very comprehensive and detailed list. There are also more sources listed in articles Time zone, Daylight saving time by country, Time in Mexico and Time in Canada. Heitordp (talk) 12:49, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
Mexico
[edit]Please, could you color Mexico gray? The country has already eliminated summer time.--Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 12:11, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

- @Aurelio de Sandoval: Thank you for the news. The law will enter into force on 30 October, and Mexico is still observing summer time until then, so I'll updated the maps after that. Also, Baja California and some northern municipalities will continue to observe summer time, so they should remain colored on the map. Heitordp (talk) 15:58, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Update request
[edit]Hello.
Can you update Syria and Jordan in:
- File:UTC hue4map X region Africa.png
- File:UTC hue4map X world Robinson - explicit offsets.png (the UTC4:30 label needs to be removed from Iran as well, after it ditched daylight saving in September 2022 and is now permanently on UTC 3:30)
- File:UTC hue4map X world Robinson.png (the wordless version of File:UTC hue4map X world Robinson - explicit offsets.png)
- File:UTC hue4map X world Robinson8.png (a duplicate of File:UTC hue4map X world Robinson.png, maybe it should be redirected to it)
- File:UTC hue4map X world CET-24h-NorthPolarProjection.png
- File:CET-24hr-NorthPolarProjection.png
In October 2022, Syria and Jordan, abolished daylight saving time (DST) and will not change their clocks anymore. Both countries are now permanently on UTC+03:00 (Further Eastern European Time/Arabia Standard Time).
Here is a source about both countries: https://www.timeanddate.com/news/time/syria-jordan-abolish-dst-2022.html

Here are sources about Syria: https://time.is/time_zone_news/permanent_daylight_saving_time_in_syria
http://mm.icann.org/pipermail/tz/2022-October/031996.html (the Arabic links can be deciphered via a machine translator for confirmation)
Can you also update Mexico in the same maps and in File:DST in the world (Detailed and labeled).png and File:Horario de verano (Fechas de cambio).png, after the law that ditches daylight saving comes into force on 30 October 2022, and the daylight saving time zone along the United States border becomes clear?
Yours sincerely, 31.200.18.89 20:01, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- I haven't been updating the files that you listed, and most of them aren't used in Wikipedia at all. Instead, I've been updating these files: World Time Zones Map.png, World time zones.svg, World DST.svg, DST Countries Map.png, DaylightSaving-World-Subdivisions.png. In these files, I already updated Jordan and Syria, and I plan to update Mexico as well. Heitordp (talk) 00:36, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

DST in Antarctica
[edit]Hello, I think Antarctica is incorrect in your map File:DST Countries Map.png, see w:Time in Antarctica. 87.122.168.15 11:28, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- It was indeed incorrect. But I find it arbitrary to show time zones of large uninhabited portions of Antarctica, and time zone information is not available for all research stations, so I just removed Antarctica from the map. Heitordp (talk) 10:50, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
Flat tax in Europe.svg
[edit]Please expand the map and show also Georgia (at least partially). Рагин1987 (talk) 11:20, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Рагин1987: I expanded and updated the map. Heitordp (talk) 10:50, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! Рагин1987 (talk) 13:37, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Greetings, I just saw the map on flat tax page, may I ask, just out of curiosity, for the reason why most European unrecognized states along with occupied Crimea are included there? Thanks. Yak mov (talk) 18:12, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Yak mov: People pay taxes to the institution that actually governs the area where they live, regardless of international recognition. For example, people living in Transnistria pay taxes to the government of Transnistria, not of Moldova; people living in Crimea pay taxes to the government of Russia, not of Ukraine, etc. So in this map, I find it better to show the areas where each tax system exists in practice. But unrecognized and subnational borders are shown with dashed lines instead of solid lines. Heitordp (talk) 00:52, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
Human Composting map
[edit]California allows it too. Thanks. Srich32977 (talk) 20:13, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Srich32977: California will allow it from 2027, so the map should be updated only at that time. In any case, if you want to color California as red on the map, open the file with a text editor and add #CA, on line 5. Heitordp (talk) 21:57, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
Vector (or otherwise editable) version of World Time Zones Map
[edit]Thanks a lot for all the updates to File:World Time Zones Map.png! I was wondering if you have a vector graphic version of this map, or another format that can be edited (Photoshop, GIMP, etc) and if you could give me access to it. I wanted to use the map in a project of mine, but the last version I can find that is at all editable is this SVG version from 2015 File:Standard Time Zones of the World (October 2015).svg, which is of course wildly out of date. Jangxx (talk) 21:43, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Jangxx: When I updated a portion of the PNG map, I took the outdated SVG map, changed only that portion, and copied that portion to the PNG map. I haven't updated the entire SVG map. I've started to do it, and also to reduce the enormous file size by recording the shapes in a much more efficient way, but I haven't finished it yet. Heitordp (talk) 02:17, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
Greenland time zone update on UTC map
[edit]Greenland has changed its time zone:
https://www.timeanddate.com/news/time/greenland-change-timezone.html 110.174.102.48 22:30, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
- Greenland is still observing UTC–3 with DST in UTC–2. The change in the standard time zone, to UTC–2 with DST in UTC–1, will be on 29 October 2023. Heitordp (talk) 22:38, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
- Other sources are saying UTC-2 is now permanent?
- https://ina.gl/media/2553527/pkt17_em2022_tidens_-bestemmelse_lov_da.pdf 110.174.102.48 04:04, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- The Bloomberg article and many others concluded incorrectly. The new law repeals the previous law on DST but it also says that the government can set rules for DST. The government clarified that the repeal of the previous law was simply to consolidate it into one new law, and that Greenland intends to continue observing DST as long as the EU does:
- The government also issued an announcement clearly explaining that Greenland will observe DST in UTC–1 starting in 2024:
- Although the government says that starting 25 March 2023 at 22:00 (26 March 2023 at 1:00 UTC) the time is UTC–2 without DST, this is the same as UTC–3 with DST in UTC–2. Therefore, to implement the change only once, the tz database maintains Greenland in UTC–3 with DST in UTC–2 until 29 October 2023 at 1:00 UTC, when it changes to UTC–2 with DST in UTC–1:
- https://www.timeanddate.com/time/zone/greenland/nuuk Heitordp (talk) 08:00, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- The tz database was adjusted to reflect how the law specifies it, UTC–2 without DST in 2023.[5] I changed the Wikipedia maps and articles accordingly. In 2024, they will need to be changed again to UTC–2 with DST. Heitordp (talk) 22:18, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
Update request
[edit]Hello.
Can you update Greenland and Egypt in File:DST in the world (Detailed and labeled).png and File:Horario de verano (Fechas de cambio).png? In the latter map, Egypt is present in the 19 December 2014 version, with the text and number, for its restoration in the update.
P.S.: Is the DST in Greenland permanently abolished or only for 2023?
Yours sincerely, 31.200.18.161 11:37, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- The first map seems to have been made from another file, probably SVG, and I don't have the original file to properly update it. It also needs some other updates and corrections to parts of Canada, Northern Cyprus and South Sudan. It's also an inconveniently large file. The second map also needs some other updates besides Egypt and Greenland. Since these maps are not used on any pages, I don't intend to update them. I keep these files updated: World DST.svg, DST Countries Map.png, DaylightSaving-World-Subdivisions.png.
- Most of Greenland is not using DST only in 2023. It is planning to use DST again starting in 2024, see this announcement from the government. Heitordp (talk) 18:05, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- I understand. Thank you for your reply. 31.200.18.161 22:54, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello, new update: Mexico Supreme Court has decriminalized abortion nation-wide. Parliament still needs to take this into law, however it is immediately applicable in court. Turb (talk) 12:47, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Turb: Thanks for the news. However, it seems that the decision only invalidates the federal law prohibiting abortion, so abortion can be provided by federal health facilities located anywhere in the country, but the state laws prohibiting abortion remain in force, so abortion still cannot be provided there by state or private health facilities.[6] Due to this limitation, I think that the map should remain unchanged. I suggest continuing this discussion on the talk page of the article on abortion law. Heitordp (talk) 15:46, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
Abortion laws Mexico
[edit]I don't understand what your argument is if Wikipedia in English states that abortion is decriminalized in Mexico. Aurelio de Sandoval (Mensajes aquí please) 21:27, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Aurelio de Sandoval: The article Abortion in Mexico does not say that abortion is decriminalized in all of Mexico. The Supreme Court decision of 2021 did not automatically invalidate the abortion laws of all Mexican states. The decision formed a precedent for other judges to follow and for people to request amparo, but people can still be prosecuted. And the Supreme Court decision of 2023 only invalidated the federal law, so abortion can be provided in federal facilities, but the state laws still prohibit it in other facilities. Please see the explanations in these sources:[7][8][9][10] Heitordp (talk) 22:49, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. GPSLeo (talk) 18:21, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

World time zones in SVG
[edit]Hello! I have uploaded a pair of files from the 2021 CIA World Fact Book, and I have seen that you made some changes based on that map. Would it be possible to upload the map in SVG version so we can make maps for every time zone? I have uploaded my versions in this category: category:Standard Time Zones of the World, 2021. Thanks! Theklan (talk) 19:22, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Theklan: I have an SVG version that I use to update portions of the PNG version each time, but this SVG version by itself doesn't contain all updates, and its file size is huge. I'm making an improved SVG version with about 1 MB but I haven't finished it yet. Heitordp (talk) 19:59, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
- A huge SVG is better than trying to edit from another PNG, but if you can do it lighter, that also would be great. The one I have uploaded is 14,25 MB, but the PNG that Commons make is way lighter, and still we have the option to edit the SVG. Let me know if you see it possible, before I continue making UTC independent files! Thanks! Theklan (talk) 20:33, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Theklan: You can see my current draft here.
- I need to fix a few bugs and add the remaining labels. After it's finished, you can use it to make maps of each time zone by simply changing the color codes defined at the top of the file with a text editor. I recommend not saving the file with Inkscape because it disrupts this structure and adds a lot of unnecessary code.
- I suggest that you wait until I finish this file, because it will make your task much easier. Also, the template that you have been using needs many updates, so I recommend not making more maps based on it.
- I should also say that maintaining maps of individual time zones requires updating all 40 files every few months when some part of the world changes its time zone or DST. I find it too much effort for little benefit. Heitordp (talk) 03:41, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks! Indeed, is too much effort, but some changes are important, and I wouldn't change all the maps very time-change, only the relevant to that time zone, and once in a while. I'll wait till you upload the final version, thanks! Theklan (talk) 07:56, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Theklan: I finally finished my SVG version of the map, here. I made several changes compared to the CIA map, such as adding stripes for areas that observe DST, and using intermediate colors instead of stripes for areas that observe half hour offsets. To make maps of each time zone, you can simply change the color codes of each time zone at the top of the file with a text editor. The file has less than 1 MB. Heitordp (talk) 07:56, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- That's so clever! I'll take a look and try to make the changes! Theklan (talk) 08:17, 5 March 2024 (UTC)

Abortion map Aguascalientes
[edit]The local congress finally made the required changes to the local penal code, and abortion is not longer a crime (technically) before 12 weeks (after implantation, like the rest of Mexico). It should not have any framework (as suggested by the Supreme Court), but the legislators didn't comply with that.
Can you please change the map 🙏?
Here is the decree (in Spanish): https://eservicios2.aguascalientes.gob.mx/PeriodicoOficial/web/viewer.html?file=../Archivos/10075.pdf#page=9

Acre-Amazonas border change.
[edit]Hi! I noticed on all of the Brazil state maps you fixed a change between the border of Acre and Amazonas and I was just curious as to if you knew when that happened because I just saw the change and was questioning when did this happen. Aimmella12 (talk) 07:30, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Aimmella12: Acre and Amazonas had a border dispute for many years. In 2004 the Brazilian government accepted Acre's claim, and the decision was confirmed by the Supreme Federal Court in 2008.[11] Heitordp (talk) 01:16, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- Ahh okay. I always wondered why it was never shown on most modern maps of Brazil so when I first saw it I was confused on when it happened. Aimmella12 (talk) 03:32, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
Map Request
[edit]Hi again! I am working on a project related to Brazilian states and I need a map that is very detailed in the borders like yours is but at the same time one that uses the lambert projection instead of the mercator projection (the one you used) which ensures equal area of the states (I attached a link below of a less detailed one to show you) is there any way you can make 1 blank location map of the Brazilian states using this projection? If not it's totally fine I'd just thought I would ask.
https://www.istockphoto.com/vector/blank-outline-map-of-brazil-with-state-boundaries-vector-illustration-and-capital-gm1001406526-270694607 Aimmella12 (talk) 01:24, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
- accurate area of the states. I usually use Maranhao and Rio Grande do Sul to compare. On mercator maps, RGDS is usually larger on the mercator projection but on the lambert projection (and in reality) it is smaller than Maranhao. Aimmella12 (talk) 01:27, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Aimmella12: The current location map of Brazilian states uses the equirectangular projection, which is not equal-area but it doesn't distort as much as Mercator. I didn't make this map, it already existed, I only updated the border between Acre and Amazonas. I don't have the resources to make a whole new map. Heitordp (talk) 04:38, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
- Ahh I totally understand! Aimmella12 (talk) 05:06, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
Malaysian individual taxation system
[edit]Malaysia operates a territorial taxation system. No tax is paid by Malaysian residents on foreign sourced income unless remitted into Malaysia.
>“Income received in Malaysia” refers to income derived from a source outside Malaysia that is brought into Malaysia, either via cash or an electronic funds transfer.
Andrew Yong (talk) 23:34, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Andrew Yong: The map on taxation systems shows countries as residence-based taxation (dark blue) if they tax the foreign income of residents in any circumstance, even if it's only if the income is remitted to the country. For example, Malta and Thailand also tax foreign income of residents only if it's remitted there, and they are also shown in dark blue. Countries are shown as territorial taxation (light blue) if they never tax any foreign income, even if it's remitted there. Heitordp (talk) 03:50, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

Question Regarding the World Time Zones map
[edit]I've been poking around with you world time zone map, and I've been unable to figure out how you chose the intermediate colors. Do you use a program for it, or do you just sorta eyeball it?
This is 100% unrelated to my question, but I thought I'd let you know there's a sliver in southeast Alaska that is colored green. 2BoogerFace (talk) 22:59, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- @2BoogerFace: Are you talking about this map or this one?
- I chose the intermediate colors by eye, within the range of RGB values between the other two colors but not exactly in the middle. The middle values don't always give the best contrast or keep the same brightness, because the human eye is not equally sensitive to the 3 RGB components.
- The green sliver in southeast Alaska is the town of Hyder, which uses the same time as the neighboring part of Canada (UTC-8, DST UTC-7). Heitordp (talk) 00:55, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the response. I was referring to the first map you linked. As for Hyder, that is bizarre but fascinating. 2BoogerFace (talk) 01:17, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
World Time Zones Map and the EEZ
[edit]As I was looking at the map, a thought occurred to me that it normally isn't the case that you change time immediately after you step off of land , so to speak. Time zones normally are effective acrosboth a a given regioandnd the EEZ associated with it, not only on land. I was wondering if it would be feasible to at some point update the World Time Zone map to at least in part reflect EEZ lines instead of only land borders? Thank you so much for your hard work maintaining the map! Adioscorea (talk) 04:11, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Adioscorea: Time zone boundaries on water are arbitrary, they don't follow EEZs either. Ships just choose whatever time they prefer, and different ships in the same location may even use different times. For example, a ship traveling between two points on the UK coast in the English Channel may use UTC during the whole trip, even if it passes through the French EEZ, while a ship between two points on the French coast may use UTC+1 even if it passes through the UK EEZ.
- In this SVG version of the map, I left a space between time zone boundaries and all coasts. It's not EEZ but I think it's better than in the PNG version, where some boundaries were right on the coasts. Heitordp (talk) 13:53, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
More fall out from your 2023/04/23 change to timezones map
[edit]This statement of yours is noticed. Ah, and Abkhazia and South Ossetia too. I see you call this "de facto", but then shouldn't you adjust +7 to conform more closely to w:Nine-dash line?
Was there ever a discussion of what process to follow for changes? Shenme (talk) 16:55, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- This time zone map has always been de facto. Before my edit on 2023-04-23, the map already showed Crimea, Donbas, Abkhazia and South Ossetia in UTC+3. My edit at that time was only to change the more recently occupied regions of Ukraine to UTC+3, because these regions also started observing it.
- This issue has already been discussed several times (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), and each time the result was to keep these regions in UTC+3, because the map is de facto. Note that the map does not support the annexation, because it still shows these regions as part of Ukraine, with the border between Russia and Ukraine as internationally recognized (white line on the map). Only their time zone is different, like other countries with more than one time zone.
- Thanks for mentioning UTC+7. Its boundary should indeed be adjusted, but not according to the nine-dash line, because China and Taiwan don't actually administer all those islands. The boundary should be according to which countries administer which islands, as shown here. I'll try to include this adjustment the next time I update the map. Kanye West's color
[edit]Why is Kanye West's color in the 2020 election blue? Isn't blue supposed to be a color for Democrats? Just wondering. The file in question: File:Kanye West 2020 ballot access.svg TheOffShoot (talk) 14:23, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
- @TheOffShoot: There were too many minor candidates in that election, so some colors had to be repeated, although with different shades. Kanye West's color was just chosen randomly. Heitordp (talk) 20:19, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
Abortion Jalisco (map)
[edit]Abortion was decriminalised in Jalisco 2 weeks ago via federal court ruling. The local Congress shall modify the local Penal Code, but it does not establish any time frame. Nevertheless, the Congress was notified today and local representatives could be punished if they don't harmonise the law soon. The decision can't be appealed and until this is done, abortion ban can't be enforced anymore (like in Coahuila and Aguascalientes). And just like in Coahuila and Aguascalientes, the gestational limit is unclear (until full legalisation).
Here are some news in English about this (there aren't many sources in this language), and some others in Spanish from bigger media outlets:

- @Aleqc: Thanks for the news. I updated Jalisco in the article and map. But Aguascalientes is no longer unclear, its congress has already changed its penal code. Heitordp (talk) 03:54, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- Yup. You are right. That would also happen in Jalisco before the last week of October 2024 (the document of the ruling has already arrived to the Congress, and it states Congress shall also codify before the last day this legislature period ends) Aleqc (talk) 21:44, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
Abortion Chihuahua (map)
[edit]A federal court has just issued a ruling that require the local health authorities of the state to offer voluntary abortion services up to 12.6 weeks of gestation to any woman or pregnant person in the state. The decision can't be appealed, and the abortion ban can't be enforced any more. The Congress needs to harmonise the penal and health laws before this legislature ends (31 August), or the local representatives could be punished. Unlike other cases in Mexico, if the state's health services refuse to practice the procedure, there will be sanctions ranging from fines to dismissal (including the health authorities of the state).

Update request
[edit]Hello, Heitordp.
Can you update File:Dual Citizenship.svg and File:DualCitizenMap.PNG, by adding the country and border of South Sudan, which allows dual citizenship since it became independent (en:South Sudanese nationality law)?
In both maps, can you update:
1.) Albania (en:Albanian nationality law), Bosnia and Herzegovina (en:Bosnia and Herzegovina nationality law); Chad (en:Chadian nationality law), East Timor (en:East Timorese nationality law), Eritrea (en:Eritrean nationality law), Iraq (en:Iraqi nationality law), North Macedonia (en:Nationality law of North Macedonia), which allow dual citizenship;
and
2.) Ethiopia (en:Ethiopian nationality law), Georgia (en:Georgian nationality law), Montenegro (en:Montenegrin nationality law), Serbia (en:Serbian nationality law), Suriname (en:Surinamese nationality law), Tajikistan ([12]), Turkmenistan (en:Turkmenistani nationality law), which ban dual citizenship?
Yours sincerely, Oirattas (talk) 19:11, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Oirattas: I updated the countries that you mentioned, and also a few others (Bolivia, Germany, Norway), in the SVG file. I also changed it to a configurable template to facilitate future edits. I didn't update the PNG file because it's no longer used in any article.
- However, note that these maps are still very inaccurate, oversimplified and outdated. They were based on a US government report from 2001, which listed whether dual nationality was "recognized", rather than allowed, in each country; many countries allow dual nationality in some cases but not others, so it's not a simple binary answer; the report didn't cover some countries; and many countries have changed their nationality laws since the report was made but haven't been updated in the maps. For these reasons, these maps have been repeatedly removed from the English Wikipedia. I suggest not using them until they are completely redone according to this comment. Heitordp (talk) 02:37, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the updates. I won't add the maps in Wikipedia articles. Oirattas (talk) 06:09, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Oirattas: I updated or corrected all countries on the map based on the sources and criteria that I added to the file summary. Countries are shown in green if they allow dual nationality without any restriction, and in red if they restrict it to certain cases. For example, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia allow keeping nationality after acquisition of foreign nationality, but not the other way around; Mexico allows it for nationals by birth, but not by naturalization; South Africa allows it only with permission from the government; so I changed them to red.
- After this update, I think that the map can be used in Wikipedia articles. But the legend should say that red means restricted, not prohibited, because no country completely prohibits dual nationality. All countries in red still allow it certain cases, such as for children. Heitordp (talk) 06:38, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for all your work. Oirattas (talk) 08:34, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

- The law was published on 15 August 2024 and entered into force on 16 August 2024.[14] I updated the article and map. Heitordp (talk) 03:08, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

- @Oirattas: The bill still needs to be approved by the president, and if so, it will enter into force 3 months later. The maps shouldn't be changed until then. Ukraine is still observing DST until the end of October. Heitordp (talk) 02:04, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
- Can you put all these maps to your watchlist and update all of them in three months time, after the bill is approved by Zelensky (who supports scrapping DST) and comes into force? Oirattas (talk) 08:53, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
- I can update most of the maps that you listed. But I don't plan to update this map or this one, for the reasons explained here. And instead of updating this map, I plan to replace it with this one after Ukraine ends DST. Heitordp (talk) 19:31, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

Abortion Morelos / San Luis Potosí
[edit]Should the map include those two territories under a purple shade (no clear gestational limit)? In both territories, judicial sentences have decriminalised elective abortion and their local legislative powers are now obligated to reform the respective laws.
In San Potosí that should be before November 26th. https://piedepagina.mx/tribunal-ordena-despenalizar-el-aborto-en-san-luis-potosi/
In Morelos, I can't find the date but the resolution can't be appealed (perhaps until the last day of this current legislation, as in other states?). https://www.milenio.com/policia/juez-de-distrito-ordena-eliminar-el-delito-de-aborto-en-morelos Aleqc (talk) 14:51, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

- Hi, in San Luis Potosí, abortion has now been legalized for the first 12 weeks. Chiapas decriminalized it via the judicial. Shonesuper (talk) 01:11, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the news. The Congress of San Luis Potosí passed the law, but it still needs to be approved by the governor and published in the official gazette to enter into force.[16] The article and map should be updated after that.
- The Supreme Court ordered the Congress of Chiapas to decriminalize abortion in an initial part of pregnancy, but it didn't invalidate the article of law that prohibits it so it's still in force.[17] Heitordp (talk) 05:20, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
