Years
[edit]1901
[edit]You created the article 1901-- but every image you put there was NOT from year 1901. Why did you do this? I reverted the article to a redirect to the category. -- Infrogmation 17:29, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- I replied to your message on my talk page. As I disagree with your revert of 1901 to a version consisting completely of images from other years, I have listed 1901 on Commons:Deletion requests. -- Infrogmation 17:57, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Year articles
[edit]Will you please stop putting images from other years into articles about specific years, at least for now until there has been some discussion? I consider it wildly inappropriate. If you disagree, please let us discuss this and get input from others. In the mean time, please stop. I am trying to assume good will from you, but this is making it difficult. Thank you. -- Infrogmation 18:16, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
I hope you will do at least one of these options: remove the many images from the wrong year you have put into year pages, put an explanation and the actual year of image in descriptions for those images on those pages, and/or explain why on Commons talk:Wikiproject Time why you think many images from other years should go into the year pages rather than the actual year of the image. Thank you, -- Infrogmation 22:38, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
- I have started trying to clean all of these up. Your assistance would be appreciated, you too @Infrogmation: . Evrik (talk) 15:24, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
Old categories
[edit]Why do you keep these old categories ? I cannot verify each weird category.
Notice that Category:American writers redirects to a bad category. --Juiced lemon 21:57, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- At this point, a renaming process was running. I knew the good name for this category, but the page was not still created. I have categorized hundreds of pages, and I cannnot waste time to wonder about each special case. When I rename categories, I always ask the deletion of the old and useless categories. --Juiced lemon 11:10, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Decades and such
[edit]Thanks for the message on my talk page. I started discussion at Commons talk:Wikiproject Time. I hope you will participate. Especially if you think decade categories should be removed from year categories (as I have seen you doing), please explain why you think this should be done. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 22:28, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Useless articles/categories
[edit]Hello Emijrp, to tag an empty article or category please use Speedydelete. If you use Delete you must list the pages on Commons:Deletion requests. Otherwise the pages would mostly not deleted! Thank you. --GeorgHH 17:11, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Bot
[edit]Hi! How does your bot work, for providing image descriptions in different languages?
Regards, --Bdamokos 21:38, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- Its a very good idea, keep up the good work!--Bdamokos 13:17, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
And could you please not put your text at the top? The uploader's description of the image should come ahead of an additional info bits. Stan Shebs 02:24, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Hispanic translations
[edit]Hi, thank you for moving these translations from the hispanic Wikipedia to the commons. You have done this for at least three of my pictures now, for example here. Unfortunately you always seems to move it to the top of the image description page and always insert a Summary header. Could you improve your bot so that it respects the already existing page and just do it this way? -- Thanks and best regards, aka 08:53, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with the above. The bot is really useful, but it would save me having to manually edit its contributions if the descriptions were added to the bottom of existing text (but above the licensing information). Many thanks! - gobeirne 05:01, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Your bot
[edit][1] You give houndrets of redundant information, almost the same description in the same language. Please improve or stop your bot.--Notschrei 17:24, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
No, modifying the original descriptions would be wrong, of course. But redundant descriptions, please compare Konstantin Wecker, Konzert 1986 (in Garching bei München) with- Please see this diff, you might need to run your bot again to fix those instances. Thanks, Yonatan talk 06:56, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes, your bot is just adding redudant information. The link to the gallery should always be the first listed item. Plus, if you were going to add such in it should be below the current description. Please remove all the Catmore --Pmsyyz 18:50, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Qué curioso: son siempre (casi) los mismos... --Dodo 09:04, 8 April 2007 (UTC) PD: ¿Viste esto?
Stop adding Catmore
[edit]It's inappropriate to use a bot to keep adding a template, when that template is being discussed for deletion. Please stop adding this template by bot until the discussion is finished. --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 02:14, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
re: The above... vote is very badly against you See Commons-gallery, but agree with the comments in the vfd that adding such per a BOT without seeing other effects on a possibly cluttered page is a bad idea; Submit, you might want to run your BOT in reverse and make some fixups. // FrankB 18:25, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry bout that non-preview! // FrankB 18:32, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- What is more it is adding non-information to some categories, eg Category:Emberizidae, it tells you to follow the link to see a gallery of images. That page of course contains no gallery, but a species list. Also it is relatively useless unless one just happens to wonder what the little blue arrow is for, and find a list with ones own language. But if one has learnt what the little arrow is for, then one has also also learnt what the message will be and might as well just click on the article/gallery link without looking at the translation!. Much better to just have an internationalised symbol indicating a gallery page, or more simply ensure the gallery page is the first page listed in the category. In short - STOP the bot! :-) --Tony Wills 23:30, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Template
[edit]I think it is stupid to force the use of the template making it appear in any upload page. This is my protest, Ciao --Sailko 19:22, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Urgent: Template:Paintingcat
[edit]Hi Emijrp. Today the categories for paintings were renamed from X## Paintings to ##th century paintings. When I looked into changing Template:Paintingcat I found that it used some template magic I have never before messed around with and that I'm not comfortable changing. Could you please make the necessary changes so that the year categories end up in the correct location? I have placed below an overview of the changes. Thanks. Siebrand 14:47, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Categorizing species
[edit]Hi Emijrp; I notice that Emijrpbot is adding categories to images. You might wish to be aware that a number of editors who work on biota think that it is unhelpful to add genus, family or higher categories to an image, if it has been identified and appears on a species gallery page. The guidance at COM:TOL suggests not adding categories to such images. However, this is disputed at Commons_talk:WikiProject_Tree_of_Life#Again.2C_delete_all_categories. The argument of those opposing categories is that a large number of images identified by species in a genus or higher category makes it difficult to find those that need to be identified, and I think that those who do that work are deserving our support. Those favoring categories have various arguments including the view that all images on Commons should be categorized. I think that many of those objecting to categories are less troubled by the addition of the species category to an image. This is consistent with Commons:Categories. Perhaps Emijrpbot might either do that or ignore species images that appear on species gallery pages. Walter Siegmund (talk) 15:34, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Please pay attention
[edit]Dear Emjrip, while editing the text of my image http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:7374_-_MI_-_San_Simpliciano_-_Corpo_S._Simpliciano%2C_vescovo_di_Milano_-_Foto_Giovanni_Dall%27Orto_25-Mar-2007.jpg you deleted the copyright information, so that the image was marked for deletion as "missing essential information". If you edit someone's pictures, you are supposed to recopy ALL of the information included in the page, otherwise your action is considered vandalism. Please take care. Thank you in advance. --User:G.dallorto 18:25, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Commented Interwikis
[edit]Hi Emijrp,
Your bot recently "updated" some interwikis on some of my experimental species/genus pages that were never "active" as these interwikis were all commented out with the standard HTML comment markers. I do not mind your bot updating the inactive lists in my pages, but rather than updating the lists in between the comment tags the bot just added the updated lists to the bottom (also not replacing the old lists), thus also activating my personal test pages as valid general pages which also makes me worry if my pages are now maybe linked from various wikipedias or other projects as the corresponding page on commons. I did not check the latter, I just changed my own pages to have the interwikis commented out again. Pages concerned were: P4b_Vespa_crabro, P4b_Plodia_interpunctella, P4b_Harmonia_axyridis, P4b_Harmonia, P4b_Coccinella_septempunctata. Such mishaps could possibly be avoided if your bot would replace existing lists in their exact location rather than just adding a new one?? Thought you might want to know. Cheers! Emijrpbot (iw)
[edit]I have seen the nice work of your bot for the interwiki updating. Can that bot also check on the wikipage whether there is a link to Commons and if not add one? For example to check on es:Souvenir whether there is a link souvenirs. Regards, Wouter (talk) 22:35, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it is possible, and som time ago I programmed a similar bot, but I disabled it due to some reason that now I can't remember. I will try to re-write that bot. Thanks for your ideas! Regards! --Emijrp (talk) 22:47, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- Just for your info my experience adding the links to Commons manually. The format of the link can be different. For example the link to a Commons category is often like Ohain but on other wikis that format is unknown and should be :Category:Ohain. For a link to a gallery there is also for example Hilversum Regards, Wouter (talk) 20:39, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- By now I'm adding links only to galeries, not to categories. In Spanish Wikipedia bot has added about 1000 links (see). Now I'm trying to repeat it in eo:, hu:, pt:... --Emijrp (talk) 12:09, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.- Image:Letrero de Firestone.jpg is uncategorized since 30 December 2008. BotMultichillT (talk) 20:24, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Dear Emijrp,
I have seen that you have undone revision 21835945 I have done on 30 May 2009.
Alstroemeria aurantiaca is an obsolete name and considered currently as a synonym of Alstroemeria aurea in which I have put the pictures.
I thus propose to revert your change and to redirect Alstroemeria aurantiaca to Alstroemeria aurea. OK?
Best botanical regards, --Réginald (To reply) 10:11, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Dear Emijrp, I saw you added an interwiki in the Dutch intro of this page. Do you mind if I remove it the next time I edit this page. I'm afraid that mixing up interwikis en wiklinks might cause confusion to the inexperienced user and the interwikis are listed to the left of the page anyway. Also it doesn't look that attractive, but that's my opinion. Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 18:20, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- Those links are very commons, you can see examples in: Barack Obama or United States. Emijrp (talk) 18:34, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- I think a page without these links, such as Rembrandt, looks much cleaner. But is that a no to my request? Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 19:03, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- I think that 7 links to 1606 years is unuseful. I think we have to ask to the community for a common manual of style. Emijrp (talk) 19:45, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- With every language intro you have to start all over again, I think, but that's another discussion. It's up to you to address it to the community. Untill then I will keep your changes. Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 20:10, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

ISO dates in User:Tivedshambo/Information
[edit]Hi - I see your bot has converted some of my photos (e.g. this) to use yyyy-mm-dd format dates rather than d mmmm yyyy. I can see why this is necessary for photos that use the Information template directly, but if you look at the personalised template I use, User:Tivedshambo/Information, you'll see it automatically converts the date to the ISO format using {{#time:Y-m-d|{}}}
. Therefore, unless there's some other reason I'm not aware of, further conversion isn't necessary. Would you agree with this? – Tivedshambo (talk) 05:27, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- Now, the bot skips images with your template. emijrp (talk) 08:56, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- Incidentally, would it be possible to incorporate
{{#time:Y-m-d|{}}}
directly into the Information template, thus removing the need to convert the dates individually? – Tivedshambo (talk) 08:14, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- You can request it on Template talk:Information. emijrp (talk) 08:56, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'll do some testing and see if it's viable. – Tivedshambo (talk) 16:27, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- You can request it on Template talk:Information. emijrp (talk) 08:56, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Queries
[edit]I think it should be fairly straightforward to create a template to convert standard date formats to Y-m-d format. However, can I ask how your bot deals with the following:-
- Foreign dates (e.g. date=27 Janvier 2009)
- Unambiguous dates in the format date=27/5/2004 or date=5/27/2004 (i.e. UK or American)
- Ambiguous dates (e.g. date=4/7/2009 - which could mean 4 July or 7 April)
- Unparseable dates (e.g. date=Probably some time during summer 1994)
- Also dates specifying month only - e.g. date=June 1985
– Tivedshambo (talk) 17:21, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- I've created the template Ymd - do you think this could be used? – Tivedshambo (talk) 21:56, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
Another Query
[edit]How come, despite the templates we have on the Commons is it that with your bot's changes all the date remain back to front with the 2009th day to the nth month of year 8? Isn't Date meant to change the date format to the user's preferred date format rather than your bot's chosen one? Regards, Captain Scarlet (talk) 10:08, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
self-made internationalization
[edit]Could you please also replace self-made (and other translations) with Own in same edit as date internationalization? Just to reduce number of edits. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:54, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
stop bot!
[edit]Please stop your bot. Template:information already has Parse source to show Own. You don't have to change that. Best regards.--Kwj2772 (msg) 03:45, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- EugeneZelenko requested me to change it (see message above). So? I think that "Parse source" is a hack, but really, we must to put "Own" to avoid translate from uploader-language to english and then to reader-language. emijrp (talk) 06:18, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- A agree that Own is better solution then analyzing messages. Messages are also may be changed over time. Other bots are also replacing text with Own. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:41, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Dates
[edit]Hello, I saw that your bot change the dates. Could you please also modify the date of these files: Mohandas K. Gandhi/Sounds? The exact date is available in the title. Thanks for your help, Yann (talk) 19:56, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
Internationalisation

[edit]Hi Emijrp, yes, this internationalization is a good idea, but I have a question: how can I as a user view for example template ? When I search for this template nothing shows up. Thank you. Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 08:36, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Internationalisation 3
[edit]You merit praise for your clean up work. Yet wouldn't it be still better to correct the template(s) in use for upload? They insert still more pages that are broken from the beginning? Eg., being under the rule of the german localization, I did create inadvertendly many pages which weren't internationalized at all. (Probably source parameter; header „== Beschreibung ==” instead of „== ==”.) Regards -- Hellerblech (talk) 06:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, upload templates must be fixed. I'm going to request it. emijrp (talk) 07:30, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- Please, do so. About 80% of edits to my watchlist are from your bot. I'd be much happier if the template was just right the first time, rather than have your bot edit every new image I upload. --GRuban (talk) 17:59, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- I would second that. What is the correct talk page to request changes to the Commons upload forms? I didn't find that page easily. BTW, thanks for your great work with bots, which are needed regardless of the upload form change! -- MattiPaavola (talk) 14:35, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

¿Me puedes ayudar?
Te digo qué imágenes son: File:Engainion of an ancient greek house.jpg, File:Funerary stele of Proclos.jpg, File:Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas 8.jpg, File:Cidade da Cultura.
Dorieo (talk) 11:57, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Bot speed
[edit]Hi, I personally think that your bot edits way too fast. As long as there are concerns with your new task Commons:Bots/Requests/Emijrpbot you should reduce the speed drastically. --Schlurcher (talk) 12:56, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Sumario y licencias
Saludos --Arcibel (talk) 13:02, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Commonist licenses
[edit]Dear Emijrp,
As you might know Wikimedia is currently migrating from the GFDL to cc-by-sa-3.0. Wikimedia Commons is also migrating and we're down to less than 8000 files (started with about 1,8M files) . Unfortunatly this number keeps growing because Commonist contains outdated license templates. You appear to be running Commonist, could you please change the following lines in your license.txt?
- GFDL should be changed to GFDL
- GFDL should be changed to GFDL
- cc-by-sa-2.5 should be changed to cc-by-sa-3.0
Can I also fix the images you have already uploaded by adding ?
Thank you very much, Multichill (talk) 12:12, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, you can. Thanks for the commonist tip, I'm going to update the .txt file. Regards. emijrp (talk) 17:18, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Your Bot: (BOT - Updating interwikis)
[edit]Hola, Emijrp, thanks for the updating of the interwiki-links. One little question. Would it be able to sort the links by [2] like the sorting order of the english Wp? Saludos. Orchi (talk) 21:04, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Why like en:wp? emijrp (talk) 18:57, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- en:wp = one of the samples. I think by order of alphabet, based on local language (by first word) like e.g.: Suomi (fi:) before Svenska or Magyar (hu:) not sorted by "h" but by "m". Orchi (talk) 19:59, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- We use sorting by language code here at Commons. Multichill (talk) 20:18, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- I did'nt know that. Long time ago a User from the Netherlands gave me the information to sort by [3] (nl: before ja: etc.). Thanks. Orchi (talk) 20:42, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
..m.....??
[edit]Hello Emijrp, I noticed[4] your bot added something like: "....m.."; is it something you're working on?. Rgrds Tortillovsky (talk) 03:14, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- You can see that all those ',' and 'm' were on the left diff, between the interwikis. My bot just added a newline between every interwiki. emijrp (talk) 08:28, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- I see; sorry to have taken your time. Thnx. Tortillovsky (talk) 15:40, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
BOT - Changes to allow localization
[edit]Just wondering: when will it be done with the old images? Looks like A-Z was done, it's now at number 4? -- User:Docu at 04:39, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
- I don't understand the changes your bot is making to most (maybe all) of my recent uploads. See, for example, File:Wollaston Unitarian Church Quincy MA 01.jpg. I'm uploading using the Commons page for own work -- is there something I should do differently to avoid this? Please understand that I'm not unhappy in any way, just confused -- Thanks, Jameslwoodward (talk) 16:15, 29 October 2009 (UTC) (respond here, please)
- @Docu: Bot finished !-Z images. Now, it is re-running (for new uploads). emijrp (talk) 19:35, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
- Why don't you change the upload script instead? If you think that your code should be applied to every image, then it should be there from the start right? It's unnecessary to have a robot do the job afterwards. --Vogler (talk) 00:02, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
- Because I'm not an admin, and I can't fix the form. emijrp (talk) 12:38, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

int:license
[edit]Hi!
Not that there would be too much difference, but your robot should be using

BOT int:
[edit]Your BOT replaces int:filedesc & int:license; that may be very useful. But: why creates the upload-page of the Commons still always the elder versions Summary & License? Is there one WP-division working against the other?
By the way, the mentioned upload-page would need a lot of fixes. Most of the times I need to edit the file immediately following the upload, because the upload-page does not allow some special entries. I will look for somebody to tell my intentions about. --Sarang (talk) 11:04, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Hi again, in the meantime i found 2 answers, first about the basic upload form that I can use to avoid my troubles, and second I saw at the Commons_talk:Upload#Update upload form that there is a request pending, but fixes seem necessary.
Another thing: How about removing something from your talk page into an archive? --Sarang (talk) 11:22, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Template "own"
[edit]Dear Emijrp,
I see that you are changing the "travail personnel" of my last uploads by template "own".
I'm already using this template and "travail personnel" is the French outcome of this template.
Should I use the English language for my pages on Commons, so that "own" would appear as "own work"? Please advise, --Réginald (To reply) 13:51, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hi. My bot inserts some templates (example Own) and some special codes (example

) for localization purposes. That things show text in the user prefered language (because of that you see text in French). You must use the template Own to help in the localization task. emijrp (talk) 14:51, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I don't understand. Since several months I'm using this template Own. I have in the meantime changed the language to English. Perhaps it will help... --Réginald (To reply) 16:30, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
- Find the differences between en, fr & nl. That's why we like Own ;-) Multichill (talk) 18:57, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Emijrpbot: changes to allow localization
[edit]Hi Emijrp,
Is there a place to list strings that could be added to your search and replace? e.g:
- Opera creata dall'uploader (own work by uploader) => Own in File:Ambulanza FIAT Ducato.jpg
- Own work by uploader => Own in File:Romanian Ambulance.jpg
If you want, I could list the ones I do manually here. This could avoid that I have to do the same more than once ;) -- User:Docu at 15:35, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Docu. Thanks for those two suggestions. I'm going to add them. emijrp (talk) 17:36, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
- To centralize this, I add a request at Commons:Bots/Work_requests#Changes_to_allow_localization. -- User:Docu at 16:16, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Petición
[edit]Hola emijrp.

Please give some thought to writing a good description of uploaded images. This ensures that they can be used. It also helps those that review and improve categories do a better job, which also ensures that images will get used in novel and interesting ways. Thanks, and happy editing!
Request for Emijrpbot
[edit]Hi, I have a specific request of Task #1 for you bot.
I have insert many links for commons (respective gallery/category of an article) in it:WP, with the template w:it:Template:Interprogetto (a general form for links gallery/category in it:WP, instead of w:en:Template:Commons or w:en:Template:Commons category used in en:WP, and many others WP).
It is possible insert/fix/update interwikis in commons, for some category, from the value of the parameter "commons" of the Template:Interprogetto?
PS: I have request this in it:WP (here) but nobody do it, maybe is a little difficult...
Thanks.--B3t (talk) 12:25, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
Please do this with bot flag. I have >100.000 items on my watchlist, presumably 60-70K of them are images and a lot of my own uploads has english descriptions and no En. If a bot will add this to all files and uses this long edit summary I can close my watchlist. --Martin H. (talk) 14:46, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

User:Emijrpbot retired?
[edit]Hi Emijrp, I notice that your bot has not made any edits in the last few months. Does this mean it has retired, or just on a break? As the highest edit count contributor to Commons, I feel we should have some kind of retirement party or something if that is the case. On a more serious note, are you aware of any tasks it was doing that have not been taken over by another bot? It would be nice to make sure any maintenance tasks are continued. All the best if you have moved on to new endeavours. --99of9 (talk) 14:46, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi 99of9. The bot did two tasks mainly: interwikis and converting dates. I "stopped" the interwikis task waiting for Wikidata, I hope they enable interwikis for other projects and not only Wikipedia. The date conversion was "solved" for the most common cases, but after some months there are probably many new images with non-ISO date formats. I will check it as soon as possible. Usage of files page
[edit]Hi!
I just wanted to ask if it would be possible to have a version of this (http://toolserver.org/~emijrp/wlm/files.txt) with the files name containing the original accentuated caracters? I've tried to use it to create subpages of canadian pictures for each day but accentuated caracters in file names seem to be braking everything when creating a gallery. For example, your list contains the file name "Église_de_Péribonka.jpg" which doesn't work when called in file:Église_de_Péribonka.jpg. It should read "Église_de_Péribonka.jpg" and link to this image file:Église_de_Péribonka.jpg. Thanks in advance for your help! Have a nice day, Letartean (talk) 20:54, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- The file codification is UTF-8. How are you opening the file? emijrp (talk) 21:04, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, to be clear, here's what I want to do and why.
- Each day, I want to chose an canadian image that was uploaded for WLM2013. To do so, I wanted to use this tool which, if you click on a date, presents all pictures from the country and uploaded on this particular date. That tool seems to be based on your list (or at least claims to be). The problem is it doesn't show pictures with accentuated file name on any browser that I use (Chrome, IE or Modzilla). To go around this problem, and since it links to your source data, I downloaded a copy of the data on my computer. Then, I imported the file in Excel to filter and extracted the images from Canada. Still, I have the same problem but it is easier to fix: I searched and replaced all special caracters I could find then pasted the result in wiki pages (here for example). The result works but there are still some problems with caracters I don't know. Also, it requires that I do something by hand that surely could be done by some computerized way.
- As you can see, I can work my way around with computers but I am not a botmaker or a programer. My question is: Is there anyway to do what I want to do (see pictures from Canada, arranged by upload date) with superzerocool's tool or by any other way and are you the person to talk with for help on the matter? Hope this is clearer and that you will forgive my english that is not my first language. Thank you! Letartean (talk) 21:34, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- When you import into Excel you must choose UTF-8 or ISO-8859-1. Play a bit with codification in Excel. emijrp (talk) 07:24, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Commons bot inactivity
[edit]Hello! Your bot User:Emijrpbot has been listed at Commons:Bots/Requests/de-flag_3 as being inactive for over two years. As a housekeeping measure we'd like to remove the bot flag from inactive bot accounts, unless you expect the bot will be operated again in the near future. If you consent to the removal of the bot flag (or do not reply on the deflag page) you can rerequest the bot flag at Commons:Bots/Requests should you need it again. --Dschwen (talk) 19:47, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments Spain 2016 is coming!Dear Emijrp, As every year, Wiki Loves Monuments in Spain, an international photographic contest about cultural heritage in the Spanish territory, will start on next September 1st. On behalf of the Wikipedia community and Wikimedia España (WM-ES), and as a participant in former editions of the event, or in other photographic contests organized by WM-ES, we'd like to encourage you to participate in the 2016 edition. We do know that you've been keen on contributing your work to the free knowledge in the past and therefore believe that you'll be glad to help us again. We want to inform you about a substantial change in the rules of the contest: this year only images of monuments or municipalities without previous photograph in Wikimedia Commons are accepted. To facilitate hunting monuments and municipalities without a free image, we have prepared a set of specific lists, which can be checked in the contest websites: wikilov.es/monuments or wikilm.es If you have comments, questions or suggestions about the contest, they are more than welcome. You can leave them here. We look forward to your free images! Sincerely, |

[edit]I've blocked your bot indefinitely because it was running a task which was declined, and it is completely unflagged. No bot flag, no autopatrolled, should not be running. Guanaco (talk) 10:00, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Guanaco: I was editing my own files in small batches without doing any harm. My bot did over 3 million edits and was flagged for years. I accepted to deflag it in good faith. Now I have become active again. I opened a request for flag, as I was asked by User:Fæ to do so, but in his opinion User:Krd said I should use my main account. I guess I should waste my time adding the credit info by hand. This is nuts. emijrp (talk) 10:25, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Emijrp: I think Krd wanted you to edit your files using your main account, but was open to discussion about using the bot. I have no issue with you doing this with your main account, or with the bot if it's properly flagged. The bot is a problem, because it floods recent changes with unpatrolled edits. If you get it flagged again, I'm fine with it being unblocked. Guanaco (talk) 10:30, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- I'm also fine with anything that is result of a discussion and not the exact opposite. --Krd 10:32, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) I'll add that Commons is generally okay with user scripts, like VisualFileChange and such. I've also used pywikibot for some tasks on the fly. The point is that if you run a "bot" account or do mass unsupervised edits, you need approval. Guanaco (talk) 10:33, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry Guanaco, I am concerned about setting a precedent. Under current guidelines for bot accounts, anyone can run an alternative account and make tool-supported edits without using a bot flag so long as the edits are neither disruptive nor misleading. This includes accounts with "BOT" or similar in the name. If Emijrp assures us that the mass edits are being actively monitored by themselves, I see no reason to stop this from proceeding, though my first preference is for this to happen under their main account. With regard to the RC log, unless these are being highlighted as being in default of a standard tag, I doubt that is a rationale to judge the edits disruptive. Thanks --Fæ (talk) 11:51, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- Looking at the actual edits, I also have to admit that I partly misunderstood the bot request (that it was license/attribution changes of own work), and I wish there had been some feedback from the operator. As it stands now, I'd suggest to reopen the bot request and get it approved shortly. Comments? --Krd 12:06, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

Colorized images
[edit]Dear Emijrp, I really like your uploaded images. I also like your colorization of images of Malcolm X and Patrice Lumumba. However: these images are not a reflection of the historical reality, but they are artistic impressions, and the colours are chosen by you and probably not realistic. The colorized images are nice for usage in a blog, in Instagram or in a fancy article. In my view they are NOT useful in Wikipedia articles (unless clearly labeled as artistic expressions). That's why I removed them from Wikidata. I hope you understand. Vysotsky (talk) 23:17, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

However, the bot did not tag the same image with its ISO speed (virtual sensor sensitivity, how the raw sensor values are scaled to get the color values in the jpeg image file).
You can find the ISO speed for this image with the exiftool program, with a command like exiftool -ISO Marmot_fountain_in_Switzerland.jpg
(assuming you downloaded the image to that filename). Note that the ISO speed may not be trivial to get from this file, I believe in this case exiftool computes it from two different pieces of camera-specific metadata in the file: see notes for the Canon:AutoISO tag and the Composite:ISO tag. You can use a command like exiftool -G1 -s -"*ISO*" Marmot_fountain_in_Switzerland.jpg
to see both the original metadata and the computed value together.
From what I can tell, Emijrpbot does add the ISO speed from file metadata into wikidata for some other photos from a different camera, even when the camera was set to select the ISO speed automatically, see eg. this photo taken with a Panasonic camera. By analogy I think it may make sense for the bot to add the ISO speed for the Canon camera too. I don't consider this a bug, since the bot need not recognize all possible metadata in all image files, I just want to make sure that you know about this behavior.
I'll note that User:SchlurcherBot behaves exactly the same as Emijrpbot here.

- Hello b_jonas, thanks for your detailed message. I will try to add support for models like this. As you say in this case getting the ISO value isn't trivial. Regards. emijrp (talk) 10:55, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Una duda fotográfica
[edit]Buenas tardes Emilio. If you know what I mean... - Hola CFA1877.
CFA1877 (talk) 19:45, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
